He lets Data experience laughter. Q becomes mortal in this episode by being turned human, by the Q Continuum. At the end he is turned back into a Q for performing an 'unselfish' act, even though Q was actually trying to kill himself because (as he said) he makes a lousy human.
'Family'. The fourth season episode 'Family' was a quiet epilogue of sorts to the slam-bang 'Best of Both Worlds,' set mostly on Earth and Starbase 1 (which orbits Earth). There were a few scenes aboard the ENTERPRISE (which was undergoing massive repairs at Starbase 1), but none aboard the bridge.
Starfleet uniforms underwent an overhaul at one point -- the zippered-up-the-front jumpsuits (with thin piping cutting into the black material covering the shoulders) was replaced by the two-piece uniform with a tunic that zipped up in the back and had a raised collar (and no piping). 'Evolution'. 'Evolution,' the third series opener, was the first aired episode featuring the new uniforms. 'The Ensigns of Command' was actually the first third season episode to be shot, but for some reason 'Evolution' aired first.
