    Hurrians. The Hurrians were neither Semitic nor Indo-European, and dwelled within Mesopotamia. The Hittites and the Kassites too found success conquering the lands of the ancient Middle East.

When did the first 'Greek' speaking settlers arrive in the land of the modern Hellenic Republic?
    c. 1900 B. C.. They conquered the Minoan civilization of ancient Crete and adopted its culture. The original Greeks were said to have come either from the north across the Balkan peninsula or across the Aegean from modern-day Turkey.
