Fun Trivia: M : Mario Games

Special Sub-Topic: Mario Fans From Cradle To Grave

What is Mario's ethnic heritage?

Italian. Mario is of Southern Italian heritage. Mario originally had a Brooklyn accent, as that is where he is from. Charles Martinet believed this to be too rough for kids. He changed the gruff, sing-songy New Yorker accent to a sing-songy Southern Italian accent.

Mario speaks Italian and English.
    t. Mario does indeed speak Italian and English. Like Luigi, Wario, Waluigi and others from the Mario universe, Italian was his first language. He does, of course, also speak English, although it is broken-English. Mario sometimes starts ranting in Italian (as he did in "Mario Vs. Donkey Kong" at Donkey Kong). In other games, he speaks to Luigi solely in Italian (As in "Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga"). It is unknown if he knows any other type of tongue. Mario is everyone's favorite paisano.

How much money does Mario pay Charlieton for the W Emblem in "Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door"?
360 Coins. Charlieton sells Mario the W Emblem in "Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door". When Mario equips the badge, it turns his clothes into Wario's clothes. If Mario wears the W Emblem with the L Emblem, his clothes will turn into Waluigi's clothes.

Hello, my name is Oaklie. What game am I from?
"Paper Mario". Oaklie is an odd, tiny, bearded dweller of Forever Forest. Very little known about this mysterious fellow. He seems to be a guard of the forest. He instructs people who he believes doesn't belong back to Toad Town. Mario encounters him when he reaches the spooky Forever Forest. He warns Mario to turn back. When Mario tells him that he has business in Boo's Mansion, he unlocks the gate he had just blocked. Bizarre, strange things happen in the dark and spooky forest. Oaklie warns Mario to be wary of his surroundings. He then hops off, and was never heard from again.

Kuribo's Shoe is also known as what?
Goomba's Shoe. "Kuribo" is Japanese for Goomba. A Kuribo's Shoe only appears in level 5-3 of "Super Mario Bros. 3". It is one of Mario's rarest power-ups in his history. If Mario jumped on a Goomba in a big green shoe, the Goomba would be defeated and the shoe lost. But if Mario punched a block, and thus attacking the Goomba from below, the shoe would be his to use. The shoe makes Mario invincible from the bottom. Spikes (such as on Spinies on the sharp teeth of a Piranha plant Plant) can be hopped across easily by Mario. Many were angry that remakes of "Super Mario Bros. 3" did not retain the original "Kuribo" name, instead adopting the "Goomba" name. Purists such as myself were disconsolate.

In "Paper Mario", I blow a huge bubble to help Mario fly over a deadly vine pit. Who am I?
Bubble Plant & The Bubble Plant. Remember in "Paper Mario", I told you, "I'll show you how cool my Bubble is if you give me a Bubble Berry"? I took root in the western part of Flower Fields. After Mario gave found a tree where Bubble Berries grew, he gave one to me! I showed him the true reason for my namesake! I blew a Bubble big enough for Mario and his seven partners to jump in, and they made it safely to the other side of the huge vine pit. Then, Mario traveled to the Sun Tower.

How do you do? I'm Baron von Zeppelin. Which of these games did I NOT show up in?
"Yoshi's Story". We Baron von Zeppelins are living, flying colored balloons with smiley faces that showed up in "Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island" as well as "Yoshi's Island DS". We can be all different colors. We drop items. The items can be either helpful (1-Up) or harmful (Needlenoses). We even assist Yoshi in the final battle against Baby Bowser by supplying him with Giant Eggs! A similar species to us named "Air Bags" appeared in "Yoshi's Story".

In what game did Mario face Chainsaws?
"Super Mario World". Chainsaws are attached to wires and chase Mario through most all levels with wires. If Mario is riding Yoshi, the Chainsaws cannot harm him at all. You must jump from platform to platform, all the while avoiding these things.

Which of the following text appears after the player beats "Super Mario World"?
"Mario's adventure is over. Mario, the Princess, Yoshi, and his friends are going to take a vacation.". "Super Mario World" was known as "Super Mario Bros. 4: Super Mario World" in Japan. It was changed to just "Super Mario World" in the United States. Nintendo typically changes the names of its games for different territories. "Mario's adventure is over. Mario, the Princess, Yoshi, and his friends are going to take a vacation." apppeared at the end of the game. "Peace is paved with the Kingdom saved. Hurrah to Mario, our only hero. This ends your trip of a long friendship." is the poem Peach recited to Mario at the end of "Super Mario Bros. 2: For Super Players". "Super Mario Bros. 2: For Super Players" superficially looked just like the original "Super Mario Bros". However, it was a million times more difficult. Players were stupefied and stymied by things such as Poison Mushrooms that looked almost identical to regular Mushroom and Warp Zones that sent the gamer back to previous levels. Nintendo did not believe that American or United Kingdom gamers could handle such trepidations. As a result, Nintendo took a game called "Doki Doki Panic" and replaced its characters with Mario characters and had it released in said countries as "Super Mario Bros. 2". "Thank you. But our Princess is in another castle!... Just kidding! Ha ha ha! Bye bye." is Peach's joke at the end of "Super Mario Bros. 3" which is considered one of the finest games ever made to this day. "Thank you, Mario. Your quest is over." is from... Nevermind, there is no need to say which game is from. We all already know. It is a Super Mario nation!

The first game ever to feature both Mario and Diddy Kong was "Mario Kart: Double Dash".
    f. The first game ever to feature both Mario and Diddy Kong was "Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour" after Nintendo bought the rights to the character from Rareware. Diddy Kong had always been part of the Mario universe, however, but "Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour" was the first game that they both appeared in.

In what Mario game did a character search for the Red Bird of Happiness?
"Super Mario Sunshine". Sure, "Super Mario Sunshine" didn't make the splash everyone thought it would, but it had its moments. The Pianta (Italian for "plant") searched for the red bird diligently for twenty-eight years. "I've been searching for the Red Bird of Happiness" for some twenty-eight years now. I guess he's just too fast for me." There was indeed a red bird in that area. Mario sometimes got Blue Coins from squirting one in the game. The Red Bird of Happiness may just be a metaphor the Piantas used to state that he had been unable to obtain happiness in his own life. How very sad.

I'm Tweester! What kind of a creature am I?
A tornado. I'm Tweester. I am a tornado. I appeared in some Mario games, starting with "Super Mario Bros. 3". I almost always appear in desert levels. "Paper Mario" was the first game where I was given an angry face. I bother him in Dry Dry Desert. You generally want to avoid me in that game. However, I can blow Mario onto a rock with a rare badge that cannot be reached by any other means. I also appear in some entries of the "Mario Party" series.

I am Clumph! I will smash you with my club! I wear primitive clothing! What color are we?
light green. We only appear in "Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga". We are huge, fat, round, and got big noses. Our clubs pack a punch. Our names start with "C", not "K", for we are green, but we are not Kremlings! If plumber brothers set our purple hair on fire, we may run for the hills. We live atop Joke's End. We are super territorial. Also, we never appear in the overworld. We only appear in battle to fight you if you engage in combat with another species.

Grrrrr! I am the Angry Sun! What game do I torment Mario in?
"Super Mario Bros. 3". I am the resplendent star who attacks Mario. I'm not a giant heavenly body. In fact, I'm about the same size as Mario. I attack Mario by swooping down in a U-shaped arch. I can be defeated with Koopa shells and hammers. So, so many years later, I had a cameo in "Mario Kart DS". I shot fireballs at racers in the Desert Hills.
