If you are fishing off the Weskus and your buddy gets a bite, he might shout out 'Jislaaik'. What is he saying?

    Wow!. 'Jislaaik' is one of many Afrikaans corruptions. It is pronounced 'Yiss like'

Later that evening you head off to the bar where somebody asks if you are 'checking me skeef'. What is he suggesting?
    You wanna fight?. Here's a tip. If someone ever asks you that, just look at him and say 'Nah china I smaak you'. That pretty much means don't worry you're alright.

If someone gave you a Snoek, what would you do?
    Eat it. A Snoek is a fish. It is very tasty but very bony. This might sound disgusting but there is nothing better than Barbecued snoek on fresh white bread and apricot jam!

On weekends many people gather around a fire where they cook meat on coals, drink beer and talk sport. This lasts the whole day and sometimes the night too. What is it called?
    Braai. A braai translates as a barbecue. Biltong is unprocessed salted uncooked meat. It tastes much better than Jerky. A Barney is a fight and Boksburg is a town on the outskirts of Johannesburg.

If you are hungry you might make a Samie for yourself. What is a Samie?
    Sandwich. Samies can also be spelt Sarmies. Every kid grows up getting Sarmies for school.

Some words have become part of the English language. One of those is 'Wildebeest'. What is it?
    Wild animal. A Wildebeest (pronounced vill-dah-beerst)is a medium sized cow like creature. You often see them with Zebra.

When you got to get groceries, you will need one of these to put them in.
    Trolley. Trolley is known pretty much worldwide except for North America where they are carts.

Mampoer is a very strong clear alcoholic beverage. However it is better known by this name meaning 'white lightening.' What is the South African name for this beverage?
    Witblits. Here's some sounder advice. Never, ever get tempted to have more than 2 shots of this in an evening. The heartburn you get from one shot lasts around half an hour. It is the Saffa equivalent of Moonshine or Bundy Rum.

What is a Saffa?
    South African. Saffa comes from the abbreviation SAF which is used to denote South Africa in sporting events. It is not a small jump to conclude that people from SAF must be SAFFA'S

Here is a word used throughout the Freedom Struggle. It is Amandla. What does it mean?
    Power. 'Amandla' was use by the ANC primarily as a show of solidarity to the struggle.The ANC (African National Congress) is the most supported political party in SA. They were the leaders in the anti-Apartheid struggle. It is the party that Nelson Mandela is a member of. The majority of members in the ANC speak either Sotho or Xhosa.
