Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. He famously twirled around the dance floor with Princess Diana at a Washington gala dinner. Can you name him?

Answer: John Travolta

In 1985 Prince Charles and Princess Diana were visiting the USA. President Reagan hosted a White House gala dinner for them, and the memorable image from that dinner was Diana, in an off the shoulder midnight blue gown, dancing with John Travolta.

John Travolta is famous for films such as "Saturday Night Fever" (1977), "Grease" (1978) and "Pulp Fiction" (1994). His acting career took something of a downturn in the 1980s and he turned to directing. During that lean period he was offered, but turned down, the lead roles in both "American Gigolo" (1980) and "An Officer and a Gentleman" (1982).

English ballet dancer Wayne Sleep danced with Princess Diana on the stage of the Royal Opera House.
2. This daughter of a famous pop star was once married to Michael Jackson. Who is she?

Answer: Lisa Marie Presley

The only daughter of Elvis Presley, Lisa Marie is a singer/songwriter in her own right. She has been married several times. In 1988 she married Danny Keough, by whom she had two children. Following her 1994 divorce from him she married Michael Jackson. They were divorced in 1996. In 2002 she married Nicholas Cage, but he filed for divorce only 108 days after the wedding. In 2006 she married her guitarist and music producer, Michael Lockwood.

She has been involved in many humanitarian projects, and in 2002 received an award from the Word Literacy Crusade. In 2007 she started the Presley Charitable Foundation dedicated to improving the lives of people through real solutions.
3. Singer, songwriter and voice actor, who was this man, who was also a creative influence on Stax Records?

Answer: Isaac Hayes

Isaac Hayes will probably be best remembered for the theme tune to "Shaft" (1971). He was however a prolific songwriter. His credits include "Soul Man" and "Hold On, I'm Comin", both recorded by Sam & Dave. He was involved in human rights and other charitable works, and in 1992 was made the honorary king of the region of Ada in Ghana in recognition of his work in that area.

In later years he was the voice of "Chef" in "South Park".
4. Who was the man who was manager of the Rolling Stones in their early years, and who set up Immediate Records?

Answer: Andrew Loog Oldham

Oldham was a musical publicist when he first saw the Rolling Stones in 1963. He had no managerial experience but quickly acquired an experienced partner and started managing the group. He was responsible for promoting their "bad boy" image, and for encouraging Mick Jagger and Keith Richard to start song writing.

He sold his share of the management of the Stones in 1966 but continued his association with them until 1967. His independent record label, Immediate Records, signed and produced early work by, among others, Rod Stewart, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and The Small Faces.
5. This jazz pianist was a member of the 1960s Miles Davis Band, and in the 1970s formed Return to Forever. Do you know his name?

Answer: Chick Corea

Chick Corea has been described as one of the major jazz pianists of his time.
Born in 1941 his first professional work was with Cab Calloway, but by 1968 he was playing with Miles Davis. While with Davis he appeared on several albums now considered to be major works, among them "In A Silent Way". In the early 1970s he made a major change in style stepping away from avant garde jazz and going to a more fusion style. He founded Return To Forever which had heavy Latin American influences.

Over the years he received many Grammy nominations, and between 1976 and 2012 won on 18 occasions.

In 2011 she appeared on "Dancing with the Stars". She and her partner, Maksim Chmerkovskiy, came second to Hines Ward. This despite a perfect 30 for their final cha-cha-cha. She has been honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
7. He was faster than a speeding bullet. Which actor am I looking for here?

Answer: Christopher Reeve

Christopher Reeve is probably best remembered for playing Superman in four films, but there was much more to him than that. He was a talented actor, playing opposite Vanessa Redgrave in "The Bostonians" (1984), and an all round athlete. He was also a qualified pilot and did all his own stunts in "The Aviator" (1985).

He was interested in political issues and supported Amnesty International and People for the American Way. In 1995 a fall from a horse left him a wheelchair bound quadraplegic. This did not stop him from lobbying for people with spinal cord injuries and for embryonic stem cell research.

His list of film credits is impressive, ranging from "Rain Man" (1988) to "Mission: Impossible" (1996), "Interview with the Vampire" (1994) to "Top Gun" (1986). Many of his films took highest box office gross for their year.
