Carlton played from 1965-1988. His first 7 seasons were as a Cardinal. In 1972, he donned the Phillies uniform for the next 15 seasons. Carlton was the 2nd pitcher to reach the 4,000 strikeout mark, one year after Nolan Ryan reached it in 1985. When Carlton retired, he was #2 in all-time strikeouts.
