Four time Cup Champion won his third Daytona 500, he becoming only the fifth driver in NASCAR history to win three Daytona 500s. He joins Richard Petty, Cale Yarbourough, Bobby Alison, and Dale Jarrett.

The race went 203 laps, with the creation of the green-white-checkers rule, a race cannot end under caution, this made for a great finish.
