The original Montreal club was founded in April 1872. The original club was renamed as the Alouettes in 1946 and joined the CFL in the same season.

The Alouettes won their first Grey Cup trophy in 1949. The Montreal football club, then known as the AAA Winged Wheelers, won the Grey Cup in 1931. The Baltimore Stallions who became the second generation of the Alouettes, were the first American team to win the cup in 1995.

Charles Bronfman put together the Montreal Concordes, and the team represented the City of Montreal in the CFL for five uneventful seasons. The Phoenix is a mythical bird that is said to have risen from it's own ashes, would have been a more fitting name, although the Concorde jet liner would also eventually find the same ironical fate as the team.

The Machine was Montreal's World Football League team during the league's first two seasons. The Nordiques were Quebec City's NHL ice hockey franchise that moved to Colorado and became the Avalanche 1995.

However, they did not help much. We all know who 'The Donald' is. Ted Turner is the owner of the Atlanta Braves of Major League Baseball. Peter Pocklington was the owner of the National Hockey League's Edmonton Oilers, and was famous for trading Wayne Gretzky to the Los Angeles Kings.

Fortunately for the citizen's of Montreal, the Baltimore franchise was a very successful football team, having gone to the Grey Cup final game in both 1994 and 1995, winning it all in 1995.
