Answer: John Elway

John Elway was drafted by the Royals in 1979 to play for them. Unfortunately for the Royals, he never played for them. He was the Yankees' first selection in 1981, and played for the New York Yankees' Oneonta single-A farm club in 1982.
2. Which track and field star was drafted in the 3rd round of the 2003 WNBA draft by the Phoenix Mercury?

Answer: Marion Jones

She was drafted by the Mercury in the third round. Marion was on the North Carolina Tar Heels basketball team while in college (1996-97 season), before being in track and field.
3. After jumping 29ft 2 1/2 inches at the Mexico City games, which athlete was drafted in the first round of the NBA Draft by the Celtics, despite never playing any basketball in college or high school?

Answer: Bob Beamon

Bob was a good jumper, but never a good NBA star. His record at Mexico '68 stood for 23 years, until broken by Mike Powell (USA) in Tokyo, with a leap of 29 ft 4 1/2 inches.
