1. Which NHL legend was the first defenceman to win the Art Ross Trophy for being the season's leading point scorer?

Answer: Bobby Orr

Orr began his NHL career with the Boston Bruins in 1966, and in his first season won the Calder Memorial Trophy, awarded to the league's leading rookie. He spent 10 seasons with the Bruins, helping them to two Stanley Cup triumphs in 1970 and 1972 (he won the Art Ross Trophy in 1969-70 and again in 1973-74).

He joined the Chicago Black Hawks in 1976, but saw little ice time with his new team due to injury. He retired in 1978 and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame the following year. At just 31 years of age, he became the youngest player to be elected to the hall.

Answer: Jose Maria Olazabal

Olazabal, from the Basque Country in Spain, joined the European tour in 1986, winning two events in his rookie year. He won his first major at the 1994 Masters, finishing two shots ahead of Tom Lehman. He grabbed his second green jacket in 1999 with a two-shot victory over Davis Love III.

He was a member of seven European Ryder Cup teams, forming a formidable partnership with Seve Ballesteros. Following the 2010 Ryder Cup at Celtic Manor, Olazabal was selected as the European captain for the 2012 event at Medinah, Illinois.

Jesse Owens, from Oakville, Alabama, was a sprinter and long jumper. As an African-American, his success at the Berlin Olympics wasn't popular with the Nazi leader Adolf Hitler, and the Fuhrer refused to shake his hand and decided not to attend any medal presentations. Owens struck gold in the 100m, 200m, long jump, and 4x100m relay.

He had his amateur status withdrawn shortly after the games, thus ending his career.

The Orlando Magic are a basketball team who joined the NBA in 1989. Their original home was the Orlando Arena, but this was replaced by the brand-new Amway Center in 2010. Mel Ott, from Louisiana, signed for the Giants in 1926. He was a member of the Giants squad who defeated the Washington Senators in the 1933 World Series. His playing career spanned 22 seasons, including taking on the role of player-manager between 1942 and 1947. After hanging up his bat, he continued as manager for one further season. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1951.

The first Boat Race took place in 1829, and from 1856 has been held each year, except for the duration of the two world wars. The race, which consists of crews of eight, begins at Putney and ends at Mortlake, over a distance of four miles and 374 yards. In 2011, Oxford won for the 76th time, Cambridge having triumphed on 80 occasions.

Olsen was drafted out of Utah State by the Rams in 1962. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1982. Following his retirement, he became an actor, portraying Jonathan Garvey in "Little House on the Prairie".

He later became a TV commentator on college and pro football games.

The Ohio State Buckeyes, based in Columbus, are members of the Big Ten Conference. The school is one of only a handful to have won national championships in baseball, basketball, and football. Al Oerter, from New York, attended the University of Kansas, before taking part in his first Olympics at Melbourne in 1956, where he won gold in the discus. He recovered from a car accident to take part in the 1960 Games in Rome, where he successfully defended his crown.

He set a new world record for the discipline in 1962, and at Tokyo in 1964 won a third straight gold medal. At Mexico City in 1968 at the age of 32, Oerter became the first track and field athlete to win gold in his event in four straight games.

He retired from competition following the 1968 Games.

Answer: Hakeem Olajuwon

Olajuwon was born in Nigeria, and moved to the USA to play college hoops with the University of Houston. In 1984, he was drafted into the NBA with the number one overall pick by the Rockets. He ended his first pro season as runner-up to Michael Jordan in the voting for Rookie of the Year.

He took part in his first NBA finals in 1986 where the Rockets lost to the Boston Celtics. He was part of the Houston team who won back-to-back NBA championships in 1994 and 1995, defeating the New York Knicks and Orlando Magic respectively. Olajuwon was traded to the Toronto Raptors in 2001, where he played his final NBA season.

In 2008, he was elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame.
