Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Jesse and Jane consummated their relationship on the floor in Jesse's bedroom. When Jesse suggested to Jane that they smoke marijuana afterward, what did she toss at him?

Answer: Her 18-month chip for addiction recovery

Jane told Jesse that she had smelled him smoking marijuana in his duplex and that he'd lose his deposit because of it. He told her that since he'd already lost the deposit, they should just light up, but instead Jane got up to leave. She tossed Jesse her chip and explained to him that she was in recovery and that "pot was like stepping stones". Jesse told her he respected that, and he wouldn't smoke in the house any more.
2. Hank returned unexpectedly from El Paso after the exploding tortoise ambush and wouldn't get out of bed. Who sat on his bed and pumped him up with a speech about facing his fears?

Answer: Walt

Walt went to see Hank after receiving a frantic call from Marie. She had been trying to call Skyler, but Skyler had already left for work so Walt took the call. Marie told him that Hank had shown up without any notice and had been holed up in his bed ever since.

She said she had to find out from Gomez what had happened down in Mexico. Walt suggested to Hank that he see a psychiatrist, but Hank told him that would be the end of his career. Walt then suggested that Hank talk to him, which Hank initially brushed off: "You know, the things I deal with, you and me don't have much of what you might call an experiential overlap." Walt said that they did. Gasp! But then he told Hank that it was because he had spent his entire life living in fear of things that might or might not happen: "Fifty years I spent like that".

But after his cancer diagnosis, things changed: "I came to realize it's that fear that's the worst of it. That's the real enemy. So... get up. Get out in the real world. And you kick that [fear] as hard as you can, right in the teeth." Hank seemed to take inspiration from Walt's comments.
3. Hank and Gomez went to the Albuquerque police department to interview Badger. What was it about his arrest that caught their interest?

Answer: He was selling blue meth.

Hank arrived back at work and received a warm welcome from his co-workers in Albuquerque. Gomez shared with him the status reports of the operations that the agents were working on, and he included an arrest report from the Albuquerque police department. Gomez told Hank that he had been in contact with the police department to see if they had found any of the blue meth during their busts, and since Badger was caught with the blue meth, he was "thinking of cruising over and saying hello."
4. What did we find out was Badger's real name?

Answer: Brandon Mayhew

When Badger was being interviewed by the policeman who arrested him, he was asked if he preferred to be called Badger or Brandon. As he was pressing Badger to get the name of his dealer, Badger's new lawyer, Saul Goodman, arrived. After chasing the young-looking policeman out of the room ("go grab a juice box, have a nap"), Saul sat down and asked who Badger was. "Brandon Mayhew", responded Badger. Later, when Walt went to see Saul, he used the name "Mr. Mayhew", claiming to be Badger's uncle. Saul asked if Mayhew was an Irish name and told Walt that he was also Irish, "My real name's McGill.

The Jew thing I just do for the home boys. They all want a pipe-hitting member of the tribe".
5. Saul Goodman had his files mixed up. For what did he initially think Badger had been arrested?

Answer: Public sex act

"Why don't you do it at home like the rest of us with a big flat screen TV, fifty channels of pay-per-view", Saul asked the confused Badger. His paperwork said that Badger had been arrested at a Starbucks. Badger finally said that it wasn't him; he "was the guy who was selling meth... allegedly". Saul apologized, it was a "transpositional error".

He then told Badger that he would work on his case for a $4,650 money order and give him "the best criminal defense that money can buy". Later Saul complained to his secretary, Francesca, for messing up the paperwork on Badger's case.
6. Walt and Jesse arrived at Saul Goodman's strip mall office to arrange for Badger's defense. How did they decide who would go into the office?

Answer: They flipped a coin.

Walt wasn't impressed with the location and inflatable Statue of Liberty on Saul's roof and asked Jesse why they didn't get a real attorney. "This is the guy you want", replied Jesse, telling Walt that Saul had got Emilio off twice when the police had him "dead to rights". Jesse pointed out that, "When the going gets tough, you don't want a criminal lawyer. You want a CRIMINAL lawyer." Neither of them wanted to go inside because they didn't want to be seen, so once again, they flipped a coin (the main method of decision-making in their enterprise). Jesse called heads and didn't seem at all surprised when he won.
7. Walt found out that Saul Goodman was getting a plea deal for Badger in exchange for Badger turning Heisenberg in to the police, and Saul refused to take a bribe to reject the deal. What did Walt and Jesse do to convince Saul to work with them?

Answer: Kidnapped him

Walt was wearing dark sunglasses and a "Simpsons" Albuquerque Isotopes hat when he went into Saul's office, which made Saul comment, "Ah, look at you. Should I call the FBI and tell them I found D.B. Cooper?" Saul told Walt that the DEA was involved because they were after Heisenberg.

He told Walt that Badger would get probation if he talked; otherwise he was going to prison. Walt offered $10k in cash for Saul not to make a deal with the DEA, but Saul refused to throw the case for a bribe. Walt told Jesse that Saul was "morally outraged... and threatened to call the police". Walt and Jesse returned that night, wearing ski masks, and grabbed Saul as he was leaving his office.

They took him to the desert and had him kneel down in front of a trench.

After finding out that Jesse and Walt weren't cartel members, Saul relaxed and told them that he "was going to assume that [the trench] was just a negotiating tactic". Jesse told Saul that he needed to give Badger the best defense possible but no deals with the DEA or Saul would be dead.
8. Since the DEA was pressuring Badger to turn in Heisenberg, who suggested killing Badger?

Answer: Saul Goodman

Jesse had threatened Saul that they would kill him if he let Badger identify anyone to the DEA. "Why don't you just kill Badger?" asked Saul, "If a mosquito's buzzing around you and bites you on the [butt], you don't go gunning for the mosquito's attorney". Jesse yelled at him that they weren't going to kill Badger.

When Walt started having a coughing fit, Saul realized it was "Mr. Mayhew" since Walt had had a coughing fit in his office. He told Walt to take the mask off and get some air. Saul told Jesse and Walt to put a dollar in his pocket to make it official so that their conversation would be covered by lawyer/client privilege. Saul told them that if they weren't going to kill Badger (which Jesse refused to allow while Walt seemed to consider) then someone was doing jail time: "It's just a matter of who".
9. To help with Badger's case, Saul Goodman contracted with a man whose nickname was "Jimmy In-and-Out". What was Jimmy's profession?

Answer: Professional prisoner

The DEA met with Badger and Saul Goodman, and Badger appeared to give up Walt, telling the DEA that he worked for Heisenberg and described him as a middle-age, bald guy. But appearances were deceiving. Saul met with Walt and Jesse and told them about James Edward Kilkelly (aka Jimmy In-and-Out), a life-long felon who had spent 44 of his 58 years in prison. According to Saul, "Jimmy provides a very special service. For a price, Jimmy will go to prison for you". It turned out that Jimmy didn't like life on the outside, so whenever he was released, he looked for an opportunity to get arrested for a fee. Walt and Jesse had to pay $80k, $50k of which went to Saul "for facilitating. Who's taking a bigger risk? He LIKES prison". They also needed to provide a pound of meth, which would be used for the arrest.

The operation was set up for the next day on the same bench where Badger had been arrested. Unfortunately, another man who bore a similar resemblance to Jimmy sat down on the bench next to Badger, and Badger thought this was the man pretending to be Heisenberg. Walt and Jesse were watching the operation, and Walt acted quickly. He dropped Jesse off and told him to get Badger to move to the other bench where Jimmy was sitting, while Walt pulled up next to Hank's car and blocked his view. When Walt pulled away, Badger was sitting on the bench with Jimmy, and the arrest quickly took place after the exchange. The Albuquerque police looked please, but Hank seemed unsure; Jimmy did give up very easily.
10. At the end of the episode, Saul Goodman showed up at Walt's school. What did he want?

Answer: To be a part of Walt's operation

Walt was grading papers when Saul walked in, shocking Walt. When Walt asked how he found him, Saul replied, "We should talk about that. It should be much, much harder for people to track you down. My P.I. charged me for three hours so I seriously doubt it took him more than one." Walt did ask if Saul was there to blackmail him, but Saul said that he was a lawyer "and even drug dealers need lawyers".

When Walt asked Saul what he was "offering to do" for him, Saul replied, "What did Tom Hagen do for Vito Corleone?" When Walt pointed out he wasn't Vito Corleone, Saul laughed that he was more like Fredo but that "You've got the right product... You're on to something special, and I would like to be a small and silent part of it".
