Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. An apparently wealthy businessman is cleaning up the debris in his yard. The debris has been left by disgruntled employees and protesters. Suddenly, the man is stricken by some disturbing physiological symptoms. What does he say to his daughter?

Answer: "I need you to drive me to a doctor."

As the man is cleaning up the mess in his yard, apparently without a great deal of reservation, his daughter arrives. His daughter explains some possible alternatives to his business plan, but he adamantly refuses. Suddenly, he experiences some visual problems and urges his daughter to drive him to the hospital.
2. Dr. Park has introduced a new patient to House. However, House is momentarily focused on a previous situation with which Park has to consider. How does Dr. Park appeal to one of House's weaknesses?

Answer: She makes a bet with House that she will not be fired.

Dr. Park is ignominiously involved in a sexual harassment case. House is reading the email trail and points out the weak points of Park's case. Dr. Park is convinced that she is in the right and suggests that they wager as to whether Park will be fired. House gladly accepts the bet, but says that she is fired in order to win the bet and prove a point.

Naturally, this was in jest. The real case is forthcoming.
3. Dr. Adams arrives in House's office after a job interview. She mildly chastises House for being somewhat mercenary with respect to selecting patients. House responds by saying, "I am an equal opportunity exploiter." What does he say next?

Answer: "I only help those that help myself."

Naturally, House is supremely interested in refunding his department. The prospect of convincing a rich patient to make a significant contribution is not outside of the bounds of his own idea of ethical treatment. House further says that, "I have a department to re-fund."
4. Upon first meeting the patient, House provides an initial diagnosis. It is suggested that the symptoms do not coincide with the problem. House refers to a popular title from literature penned by Lewis Carroll for the syndrome. Which is it?

Answer: "Alice in Wonderland"

House suggests a possible diagnosis. One of the symptoms doesn't fit. House ignores the absence of the symptom and declares that it is "Alice in Wonderland Syndrome." House proceeds to make clever references to the elements of "Alice in Wonderland."
5. House displays some of his extraordinary talent by speaking in which language to the patient, which happens to be mysterious to the patient's daughter?

Answer: Mandarin Chinese

In a somewhat shameless attempt to garner funds for his department, House speaks in Mandarin to the patient. House, with a lack of subtlety, threatens to declare that the patient is mentally unsuited to pursue a business in China. The patient acquiesces and says, "How much to you want?" House smiles wryly.
6. As Dr. Park, Dr. Adams and House are discussing the morality and ethics of business, the subject of ice cream flavors arises. To which flavor does House object?

Answer: French Vanilla

Dr. Park expresses her concerns about House's patriotism and loyalty. She blithely suggests that House hates ice cream as well. House plays along and says, "French Vanilla, yeah." Even though the topic of ice cream flavors is completely non sequiter, a reasonable diagnosis arises from the discussion.
7. During the hearing for Dr. Park, House bursts into the hearing spouting that she should be fired for insubordination. It could have been a clever ruse on the part of Dr. House. Is Dr. Park terminated?

Answer: No

Reeling with success, Park enters House's office and announces her victory. She says that House owes her the wagered amount. Park announces her winnings in Korean Won and the current currency conversion. House says, "My, aren't you petty."
8. House is trying to deliberate about the case, but the noise from the adjacent office is driving him crazy. What, in particular, gives House his epiphany?

Answer: House views a radiograph on the board.

Enraged by the continuous din of noise from the adjacent office, House proceeds to punish the offending physician. However, House suddenly notices a radiograph on the wall which gives him the inspiration required to provide a definitive diagnosis.
9. In what appears to be a completely unethical maneuver, House encourages the patient to sign a press release that would contribute to the portfolio of the stock, but sacrifice many jobs. Does the patient sign the form?

Answer: Yes

Much to the chagrin of his daughter, the company owner signs the release. It makes House happy, but it alienates the daughter, not to mention the many faithful former employees of the firm.
10. House wheels in the very expensive missing machine into Foreman's office. Foreman probably knew all along exactly what House what was up to. However, Foreman is surprised when House hands over something very valuable to the department. What is it?

Answer: a check for a substantial amount that funds the department

House returns the missing equipment, which he evidently parlayed into a great deal of cash. It turned out to be a wise investment, though. House proudly hands Foreman a check which far exceeds the requirement of funds necessary for getting his staff back on board.
