Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How many Road Blocks were featured in the race's first leg in Guangzhou, China?

Answer: One

The Road Block capped off the race's first leg as eleven returning teams made their way from California to Guangzhou, China. For this task, teams had to head to the stadium at Haixinsha Island and the selected member had to perform three high-wire flips suspended in the air three hundred feet above the stadium. Cord, Brendon, Connor, Margie, Leo, Mallory, Flight Time, John, Jennifer, Joey, and Natalie chose to 'feel wired' for this task before racing on foot to their first Pit Stop at the Guangzhou Opera House.

The previous several seasons of the race featured two Road Blocks in the first leg, one for each team member.
2. In Leg 2 in Guangzhou, which team utilized an Express Pass to skip the car-building Road Block task?

Answer: Caroline and Jennifer

Heading to the Edaytown Playpark and Children's Activities Center in the toymaking capital of the world, team members had to build an electronic kiddie car, fully constructing it from a box of unassembled pieces using instructions written in Mandarin. Dave, Margie, Jamal, Brendon, Mark, Flight Time, Meghan, John, Jet, and Caroline tested their mettle in assembly then strapped their vehicles into a cab to deliver them to the Guangzhou Children's Activities Center. Caroline and Jennifer petitioned Jet and Cord for the Express Pass, receiving it and using it immediately to skip the task.
3. Which racer did not complete the trampoline Road Block task in Malaysia in Leg 4?

Answer: John

Starting Leg 4 by heading to the Murut Longhouse in Prince Philip Park (in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia), teams needed to pick one member 'who's got a spring in their step'. For this task, the selected teammate needed to jump on a bamboo trampoline in the longhouse to grab a flag hung above them from the ceiling (adjusted for height).

They could take three jump attempts before conceding their spot to the next in line. Cord, Connor, Leo, Luke, Big Easy, Caroline, Jessica, and Rachel completed this task, some in one jump and some (like Cord) in forty-seven jumps. Following this task, teams flew to Kuala Lumpur.
4. In the fifth leg of the race, team members entered a Sri Lankan garment factory and had to craft which of these items of clothing?

Answer: Shirt

Reaching the Trendy Connections Garment Factory near Colombo, Sri Lanka, team members had to 'put the treadle to the metal' and stitch together a shirt from scratch, using provided panels to make the garment based on a single example. When their complicated shirt was approved they could then bring it to a heat transfer machine which would transfer the logo of their Pit Stop destination on the chest.

It allowed them to head by bus to the Colombo Rowing Club. Big Easy, Connor, Jennifer, Leo, Jet, Brendon, and Jessica elected to sew this task up; neither Margie nor Luke completed the task as they fell too far behind to be able to participate.
5. In Leg 7, racers had to hand off a number to two Roman citizens posing as a reference to what film?

Answer: Roman Holiday

Arriving at the Spanish Steps towards the end of Leg 7, teams had to sum some numbers up.
Climbing the steps themselves, the widest steps in Europe, they had to count the steps and then add that number to the year depicted on the obelisk at the top. Using postcard, they had to write out the total in Roman numerals and hand it off to a couple seated on a scooter a la "Roman Holiday. Brendon, Dave, Jennifer, Jet, Flight Time, Leo, and John completed this task and then raced on foot (to a very tight finish) at the Piazza del Popolo.
6. In Leg 8, team members had to recreate a page of an ancient manuscript in Italy. They had to decide on a participant based on which prompt?

Answer: 'Who's got the write stuff?'

Teams drove to La Badia di Orvieto to determine 'Who's got the write stuff?'. Arriving at the monastery there, the selected teammates (Rachel, Jet, Connor, Caroline, Leo, and Flight Time) had to receive an unfinished manuscript page and, using an example from a book, copy the text and match the original calligraphy while doing so. Before presenting their page for approval they also needed to gold-leaf an image on the page to perfection. Completing this task allowed
teams to race up into the city of Orvieto by funicular and, eventually, reach the Pit Stop at the city Duomo.
7. Team members utilized dogs during the Swiss Block in Leg 9. What did they need to transport?

Answer: Milk

Arriving next to a milk truck in the town of Oberrickenbach, teams needed choose someone to perform a milk-pickup in the most Swiss way possible by selecting a Saint Bernard hitched to a trailer and bringing a pair of empty milk containers to one of two gondola stations.

Then, riding a gondola into the Alpine peaks, they had to locate a farmer and trade their empties for full containers to transport back to the starting point. Cord, Connor, Leo, Brendon, and Caroline elected to participate in this one before heading to the Pit Stop atop Mount Titlis.
8. How long did team members have to perform a close shave in the Leg 10 Road Block (in Seville, Spain)?

Answer: One minute

Coming across a barber shop in the city of Seville, Spain, it made sense that team members would be taking on a Road Block inspired by "The Barber of Seville". With that, Connor, Jamal, Jennifer, Jet, and Rachel needed to perform a close shave, properly removing all of the shaving cream applied to a balloon with nothing more than a straight razor in sixty seconds. If they had a steady enough hand and avoided popping the balloon, they would get their next clue.
9. During Leg 11, the teammate selected for the Road Block had to learn a poem in which language?

Answer: Welsh

Driving through the UK, teams made the race's first-ever stop in Wales when they reached the Pontcyslyllte Aqueduct for a Road Block task. This one asked one member of each team to recite poetry, hopping into a boat on the aqueduct and riding the fifteen-minute course while learning a Welsh poem.

At the end of the course, they had to perform their verse without notes and with the proper pronunciation in front of a Welsh linguist to collect their next clue. Caroline, Brendon, Jamal, and Connor completed this task.
10. The final Road Block of the race involved which intense activity in Las Vegas, Nevada?

Answer: Skydive

Leg 12, taking teams to their final destination city of Las Vegas, Nevada, featured two Road Block tasks. While the first had team members join in a major illusion stunt with David Copperfield, the second Road Block was the final task of the race and allowed one team member to locate and skydive into their Pit Stop, the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Since Connor, Jennifer, and Rachel completed the David Copperfield task, Dave, Caroline and Brendon completed the skydive, shooting fireworks down during their descent. Teams' arrival at the final task, for all intents and purposes, determined the order of their placements for the race.
