Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In Leg 3, teams flew from Guangzhou, China to what Malaysian destination?

Answer: Kota Kinabalu

Departing from the promenade on Shamian Island in the start of Leg 3, teams were told to make their way to the airport as fast as possible to secure a seat on one of only two predetermined flights heading from Guangzhou to Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia. Only six teams ended up on the first flight while three were relegated to another flight three hours later than the other. Surprisingly, the front-running team ended up arriving at the airport just shy of the cut-off, losing three hours in a matter of minutes.
2. Team members performing the Road Block at Kiansom Waterfall (in Leg 3) had to do which of the following?

Answer: Get wet

Upon arriving in Malaysia, teams needed to flag down a taxi and make their way to the Kiansom Waterfall in Inanam on the northern edge of Malaysian Borneo. Arriving in the jungle here, teams found the Road Block task, requiring that one member suit up for a ten story rappel down the waterfall (with the Travelocity Roaming Gnome). On their way down, they needed to locate their clue on a rocky outcrop and snag it to return to their partner. Missing it would require another go. Dave, Jamal, Cord, Luke, Flight Time, Jennifer, Jessica, Rachel, and Joey all completed this task.
3. How many teams completed the 'River Delivery' Detour option in Malaysia in Leg 3?

Answer: Four

After the Road Block, teams needed to take their taxis to Kampung Tompinahaton whereupon they were given a Detour task. Before beginning, teams needed to use bamboo and rope to craft a makeshift raft to ride down the nearby river (and rapids). Once they were on their way they could choose to complete either 'River Delivery' or 'Jungle Run'.

In the former task, completed by most of the front-runners, teams needed to transport fruits to a local village along the river, stopping for their next bit of info in the hands of a local chief. Dave and Connor, Leo and Jamal, Jet and Cord, and Margie and Luke completed this task.
4. In the 'Jungle Run' Detour task in Malaysia in Leg 3, what weapons did the participants use?

Answer: Blowguns

Teams not feeling up to completing the 'River Delivery' task had to stop at a different route marker on the river to complete 'Jungle Run' instead. In this task, they had to choose a local tribesperson and head into the jungle with a blowgun. At different points they would have the opportunity to fire the blowgun to hit a stuffed bird and, if the bird was knocked off its tree branch, the task would be completed. Both team members needed to make the shot to finish. Caroline and Jennifer, Flight Time and Big Easy, Jessica and John, Brendon and Rachel, and Joey and Meghan completed this task.
5. Which team was eliminated in Malaysia in Leg 3?

Answer: Joey and Meghan

After disembarking their rafts further downriver from the Detour, teams needed to hop into taxis again, this time to head to the third Pit Stop of the race, the water village at Tanjung Aru. Here, Dave and Connor took their first win of this race (and their first-ever win off crutches), taking with them a trip for two to Budapest courtesy of Travelocity. Arriving in last place, and in the rain, was Joey and Meghan who, after arriving on the last flight three hours behind and failing to keep their cab after the Road Block, fell back far enough to get eliminated.
6. How many people completed the trampolining Road Block task in Malaysia in Leg 4?

Answer: Eight

With only eight teams still left in the race, the participants headed out from the Pit Stop in the Tanjung Aru Water Village in Kota Kinabalu and took a taxi to a marked longhouse in Prince Phillip Park. There, teams were asked 'who had a spring in their step' for the Road Block, a task in which one member of each duo had to hop into the center of a bamboo trampoline and, with the help of locals, jump high enough to reach a flag raised to a specific height. Cord, Connor, Leo, Luke, Big Easy, Caroline, Jessica, and Rachel completed this task, some much quicker than others.
7. After completing the Road Block in Leg 4, teams needed to board a flight. Did they leave Malaysia?

Answer: No

Teams completing the Road Block were sent directly to the Kota Kinabalu Airport to check in on one of only three flights heading direct to Kuala Lumpur, the capital city of Malaysia, and their next destination. The three front-running teams took the first flight while the other two flights ended up arriving at the same time (due to a delay for the second flight). Upon their arrival in Kuala Lumpur, teams had to find an intersection near the Petronas Twin Towers.
8. Which team did not complete the deejaying 'Mix Master' Detour task in Leg 4?

Answer: Jet and Cord

Reaching the clue box waiting for them at the intersection in Downtown Kuala Lumpur, teams were forced to make a choice for their Detour. Regardless of their decision they had to make their way through the city streets to the Skybar on the 32nd floor of the Traders Hotel. Those completing 'Mix Master' needed to train with local DJs to learn how to scratch a record.

When they were ready they stood in the booth behind the crowd to mimic seven sets of scratches. Once both members successfully matched the sets to the approval of the DJ, they could receive their next clue. Leo and Jamal, Jessica and John, Flight Time and Big Easy, and Caroline and Jennifer completed this task.
9. During the 'Master Mix' Detour task in Leg 4, how many individual drinks did teams need to pour?

Answer: Seven

Instead of playing to the music, teams completing 'Master Mix' needed to head to the bar at the SkyBar and pour some cocktails. The trick was that they needed to pour seven at the same time in a pyramid trick-pour, and without mixing them. This involved seven alternating glasses of yellow and red juices, and if the teams mixed the drinks or failed to get them poured properly, they would need to start over. Jet and Cord, Dave and Connor, Margie and Luke, and Brendon and Rachel completed this task, though it took several hours for most.
10. Which team was last to arrive at the non-elimination Pit Stop in Leg 4?

Answer: Brendon and Rachel

After the Detour task, teams needed to proceed by taxi to their next Pit Stop, the Batu Caves. Jet and Cord ended up arriving in first for the second time during the race (their first victory being in Leg 1). As such they won a trip for two to London courtesy of Travelocity.

In the end it was Brendon and Rachel, unable to get the hang of the 'Master Mix' task, who stepped on the mat in last place. Despite this, they were informed that it was a non-elimination leg and that they would be racing with a Speed Bump in the proceeding leg.
