"The Amazing Race 24" [1] Trivia Quiz

As is often the case, the eleven teams setting off for a race around the world were lined up to begin in California-- in this case they met at the starting line at College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita, just outside the city of Los Angeles, California, to the sound of the UCLA Bruin Marching Band playing the race's theme. With the word 'go', they were told to complete their first task, searching the band members on the field for one bearing the Chinese symbol for the city that would be their first destination. Doing so would secure their flight.

Answer: Guangzhou

Finding the correct marching band members in California secured teams on either the first flight heading out from LAX (upon which there were four sets of seats) or the second flight (upon which there were seven sets of seats). Upon their arrival in this Chinese city, halfway around the world, teams had to take a taxi to Jiangnan Avenue North, a location famed for its wedding dress shops, where they had to find one of three locations containing their next clue-- The Precious One, Silver Gorgeous, and Rich Forest and Beauty. If other teams claimed the clues early, the shops could run out.

Answer: Half of the cars

After finding the wedding shops, teams received a glass bubble sending them to the top of Canton Tower, the tallest building in Guangzhou, to ride the ferris wheel overlooking the city. Here they needed to enter a car and read a clue on the back of the door which would either tell them to try again or give them the info needed. What teams found, however, was that they would need to ride the whole circuit if they got it wrong and that proper clues were only in even-numbered cars.

Answer: Five

After riding the ride on Canton Tower, teams had to find their way to the stadium on the river's edge-- Haixinsha Stadium-- home to their first Road Block task. For this task, one member of each team had to suit up in a daredevil outfit and take to the harnesses atop the stadium's towers to perform five aerial somersaults.

When this was done they could return to their partners and continue on. Cord, Brendon, Margie, Connor, Leo, Flight Time, Mallory, Jennifer, John, Joey, and Natalie finished this task to receive their next clue.

Answer: Natalie and Nadiya

After the Road Block, teams were told to proceed on foot to the first Pit Stop of the race, the uniquely-shaped Guangzhou Opera House, where Phil would be waiting at the mat. Here, Jet and Cord propelled themselves to a first place win, making them the first-ever team to have first place arrivals in three different "Amazing Races" (seasons 16, 18, and 24).

They also ended up winning two Express Passes, one for themselves and one for another team. After a difficult leg of arguing and bad luck, Natalie and Nadiya, who never placed lower than sixth in season 21, were the first team to be eliminated.

Answer: No

In Leg 2, teams left the Guangzhou Opera House and were told to travel to their next destination, a fifty minute trip through Guangzhou to the Chen Clan Academy across the city. Here, the teams arriving had to stand still and wait through a meditative ceremony for the master to give them their next clue (which inevitably turned out to be a stamp across both members' foreheads) leading them to their next destination...written entirely in Chinese.

Answer: Toy cars

Some assembly was certainly required. The stamps on teams' foreheads sent them to a massive children's park known as Edayworld, where they found their Road Block task. For this one, teams had to choose the mechanic of the two of them, and that member had to retrieve a box and assemble a child's toy car (while children played around them, no less). Only when the car was properly assembled could they carry on with the race. Margie, Dave, Brendon, Mark, Meghan, John, Caroline, Jet, Jamal, and Flight Time were chosen for this task.

Answer: Caroline and Jennifer

At the Road Block, having arrived last (and with Caroline unable to construct her vehicle), Jennifer propositioned Cord with the idea that if they gave them the second Express Pass, they would be letting a weaker team waste it for them. Jet and Cord agreed to the idea, letting the country singers skip the Road Block and continue without the car being finished, vaulting them to the front of the pack. All of the other teams, meanwhile, had to bring the cars with them in their taxis to the next destination, the Guangzhou Children's Cultural Center.

Answer: 'Feather Ball'

Arriving at the Guangzhou Children's Cultural Center, the teams were given their first Detour task, a choice between 'China Cup' and 'Feather Ball'. None of the teams chose the former, which involved heading to a local healer to perform a heat-based therapy said to remove toxins.

Instead, all ten teams completed 'Feather Ball', heading to a local park to kick a shuttlecock amongst a group of players. Once the team collectively hit the device ten times they could continue on.

Answer: Mark and Mallory

After completing the Detour, the teams were told to make their way to the second Pit Stop, Shamian Island in Guangzhou, China, where Phil would be waiting. Here, in one of the narrowest finishes between the teams in "Amazing Race" history, Brendon and Rachel had their first-ever first place finish, winning $2,500 each and narrowly defeating Margie and Luke.

In the span of five minutes, five other teams also landed on the mat (leaving seven teams on the mat, together, upon their arrival). In the end it was Mark and Mallory who were eliminated due to their incompatibility and the early mistake of forgetting Mark's bag outside the Road Block.

It set them back enough to send them home second.
