Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. To which country did teams travel in Leg 3?

Answer: South Africa

In the beginning of Leg 3, teams departed from the second Pit Stop at a small jungle camp near Iguacu Falls in southern Brazil and were instructed to travel thousands of miles to South Africa. Teams quickly took a flight from the nearby airport to Sao Paulo to connect to various other flights around the world, all in order to reach Cape Town in the best possible position.

Many of these teams connected to London, which resulted in about a day's worth of flight time for certain groups. When teams set down in Cape Town, they were instructed to head to Robben Island, seven miles off the shore of the mainland, and home to Nelson Mandela's prison cell.

When teams arrived here, they would be able to find their next clue.
2. Which team did not complete the 'Dance' task on the Detour in Leg 3?

Answer: Cyndi and Russell

Following their arrival at Robben Island, teams were told to make their way to Kalk Bay Beach where they would participate in their Detour tasks. Upon arriving, the first Detour task was 'Dance', which had teams sing and dance for tips at their location. Once that team was able to accumulate 25 rand in tips for their moves, they would be able to obtain their next clue in the leg. Blake and Paige, Mary and Peach, Shola and Doyin, Oswald and Danny, Gary and Dave, and Tara and Wil completed this Detour task. The second task, located on Kalk Bay Beach, was 'Deliver', which took teams to a nearby pier to carry nearly 300 pounds of fish onto weighing scales (from a docked boat). Once this was done, teams could proceed.
3. How many teams completed the 'Deliver' Detour task of Leg 3?

Answer: Two

Only Chris and Alex and Cyndi and Russell made their way through the 'Deliver' Detour task as opposed to 'Dance', opting to do a bit of heavy lifting instead of dancing in the streets. Although more teams were initially going to attempt this task, only those two were able to complete it. Peggy and Claire did not complete any Detour tasks. Following the Detour, teams were told to make their way to the Paradise Hair Salon in Langa Township, a more impoverished locale of Cape Town. Teams needed to first take a train back to Cape Town Station, then a taxi to their next location.

It is at this business that the teams came into possession of their second Road Block clues.
4. Teams had to gather a sheep's head and which other item for the Road Block in Leg 3?

Answer: Epsom salts

Teams selected one member each in order to complete a task that involved accumulating one 'smiley' (a sheep head) and a box of Epsom salts, then taking them through the streets to a location housing a healer known as Ndaba Sangoma. Once these items were given to their new owner, the participant would need to wait for the healer to brew a potion from these obscure items, and they would need to drink it to obtain their next clue. Those braving the bitter taste included Wil, Chris, Blake, Gary, Oswald, Russell, Mary, and Doyin. During this time, many team members took the time to reflect upon the situation of the area's residents, offering them gifts from their luggage. Once teams reunited, they were to read their next clue, sending them to the third Pit Stop of the race.
5. Which team was first to check in at the third Pit Stop of the race?

Answer: Oswald and Danny

Upon finishing the Road Block, teams were told to make their way to Lanzarec Manor in Stellenbosch, South Africa, where they would locate the third Pit Stop of the race at the lush winery found there. Oswald and Danny were first to arrive, closely followed by two other teams. Following this, it took many hours before the remaining teams arrived, having been on separate flights at various times.

It ultimately took more than twelve more hours for Peggy and Claire to arrive from their London-Cape Town flight. Upon arrival at Robben Island, they were given a clue taking them directly to the Lanzarec Manor Pit Stop, and stepping onto the mat, they were the third team to be eliminated from the second "Amazing Race".
6. Which team was on the first charter flight to Namibia in Leg 4?

Answer: Mary and Peach

Opening their clues at Lanzerac Manor, teams discovered that they would need to locate the Cape Town Business Aviation Center, find Ryan Blake Air, and sign up for one of two charter flights to Walvis Bay, Namibia, nearly eight hundred miles away. The first flight, consisting of Tara and Wil, Oswald and Danny, Gary and Dave, and Mary and Peach departed at 9:00am, while the second flight, carrying Blake and Paige, Shola and Doyin, Chris and Alex, and Cyndi and Russell, left at noon. Arriving at the airport in Walvis Bay, teams found their clue at the front entrance of the terminal.

This clue told teams to drive to the town of Swakopmund to find the local lighthouse. Once at the top, teams would find their next clue.
7. Which team took the Fast Forward clue for the fourth leg of the race?

Answer: Oswald and Danny

Arriving at the lighthouse, teams were told to spot their vehicles in a nearby parking lot. Once teams reached these four-wheel drive vehicles, they would find their next clues, and a driver, who would take over the wheel for safety reasons at night.

The clue found with their car told teams to drive to the Matterhorn Sand Dune, then hike to the top to find their next clue. Due to a foot injury, Oswald and Danny opted to take the Fast Forward clue by traveling to Swakopmund Hotel, a hotel made from a converted railroad station, and they were told to find their clue where the tracks used to run; right through the new swimming pool.

Although Oswald and Danny claimed the Fast Forward, Mary and Peach also attempted to take it, only to find that it had already been claimed.
8. Which Detour task was completed by the most teams in Leg 4?

Answer: 'Slide'

Arriving on top of the Matterhorn Sand Dune, teams found the Detour clue of the leg, a choice between 'Slide' and 'Stride'. In 'Slide', would be able to take a safety briefing, then use a sandboard to slide down the Matterhorn Dune to their next route marker at more than fifty miles an hour.

Although daunting, the task would be much quicker. In 'Stride', teams would need to follow a marked path down the back side of the dune and around to the same clue box. Though less intense, the walk would be arduous and time-consuming. Tara and Wil, Gary and Dave, Mary and Peach, Blake and Paige, Cyndi and Russell, and Chris and Alex all completed 'Slide' while no one completed 'Stride'.
9. What animal carving did team members need to trade for to complete the Road Block of Leg 4?

Answer: Giraffe

Following the Detour, teams received Route Info telling them to drive one hundred twenty-five miles to Spitzkoppe, where they needed to locate the General Dealer and ask for the 'postcard of the day'. They then needed to make their way to the outskirts of Spitzkoppe to a rustic woodcarver's market, where they would receive their Road Block clue for this leg of the race.

The person chosen for this Road Block needed to know their animals, because they needed to use whatever remaining money they desired as well as their bargaining skills to purchase one of each of Africa's major animals, the lion, rhino, buffalo, leopard, and elephant. Once this was done, they would need to trade their animals in for a large wooden carving of a giraffe, which would result in their final clue for this leg of the race, and thus directing them to the Pit Stop. Tara, Dave, Peach, Blake, Russell, and Alex participated in this task.
10. Which team was eliminated in Leg 4 in Namibia?

Answer: Shola and Doyin

Taking the lead from their Fast Forward, Oswald and Danny made their way directly to the Pit Stop for this leg of the race: Amani Ranch, a small outdoor retreat and game reserve outside Namibia's capital city of Windhoek. Because of their advantage, they once again placed first in another leg of the race. As for the teams completing this leg's challenges, they completed their Road Block and were instructed to travel to the same location with their new giraffe. Following Oswald and Danny, Gary and Dave arrived in second followed by Tara and Wil shortly after.

Although Chris and Alex were in last for the majority of the leg, they managed to pass Shola and Doyin, who got lost driving through the desert on their way to the Detour, and then suffered through car troubles.

They were last to make it to the Pit Stop, and became the fourth team eliminated.
