Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. If you're not already a Paladin, then you will definitely want to become one during the course of this game. Once you attain Paladin status, the "Paladin" score on your character sheet will begin to increase with every good deed you perform. What happens as your "Paladin" score rises?

Answer: You get more holy powers

Paladin and Honor points are collected each time you do something heroic and chivalrous. It could be as simple as giving some money to the poor, or saving someone from peril. Act justly, have mercy, and you will soon be able to do things far beyond the realm of a "mundane" fighting brute.

You will begin to unlock new Paladin powers as your point levels increase. There are four different powers to unlock during "Quest for Glory 3", and most of them will really help you out. However, if you're not already a Paladin at the beginning of this game, you can attain Paladinhood but aren't likely to earn more than one or two powers before the game ends.

Oh, and, the Holy powers themselves do not improve. You simply get a wider variety as you progress.
2. What is the first Paladin power you will receive during the game?

Answer: Flaming Sword

A few Paladin powers, like Danger Sense, are mostly useless. The flaming sword and holy shield are very good though - they automatically increase your attack and defense strengths whenever you enter combat, making you considerably more powerful than a "mundane" fighter. The healing power is of course extremely useful - you can pay Stamina to gain Health, which means you will be far less dependent on healing pills, and Stamina can easily be restored by resting (that is, where resting is possible...).

But these are all technicalities. The bottom line is that a Paladin is always more powerful than a Fighter, which is why all fighter characters should strive for Paladinhood. And if that's not enough, the Paladin's storyline is also considerably more interesting!
3. The Fighter is the only character who cannot get the Fruit of the Venomous Vine without helping the young Meerbat.

Answer: True

In the western part of the Savannah is a great ring of rocks. There are venomous vines growing within the circle, and a group of meerbats (they're like meercats... with bat wings) take turns diving into the vine to try and wrest out some of its fruit. A young meerbat will stumble into one of the vines and become ensnared!

The fighter is the only character who shouldn't pass up the chance to rescue the poor meerbat. You'll be rewarded for this with a fruit from the vines, and also another item which will only become useful (and absolutely crucial!) very late in your game. Other character types have it much easier - they can get the fruit themselves using magic or special skills, and will then be able to acquire the special item separately.

Oh, and be sure to pack some poison cure pills. These ARE venomous vines, after all.
4. Fighters solve problems by way of force. They don't spend too much time solving puzzles, and instead rely on their well-developed survival skills. They must be able to fight properly, and as such require good knowledge of the many dangerous monsters they may encounter. So your fighter should have no problem answering this question: Which of the following monsters is poisonous?

Answer: Winged Cobra

Winged Cobras are distant relatives of another creature, the Wyvern, which you will meet in the next "Quest for Glory" game. They look almost like small dragons with big, poisonous fangs! Aside from the poison, they also attack quickly and from ambush, so you have little time to throw spears at them as they approach or swallow a couple of pills to beef yourself up.

Fortunately, Winged Cobras are not exceptionally difficult enemies to defeat. Also, they're not terribly common. You can only meet Cobras in the western part of the Jungle.
5. As a Fighter, you will have to undergo an initiation ceremony to be accepted as a Warrior of the Simbani. The initiation is a grueling test of your various skills, but also of your ability to solve problems using your brain (something most fighters aren't well-equipped to do!). Which of the following contests is NOT included in the initiation competition?

Answer: Combat Arena

The competition also includes a test of improvisation, where you must throw a spear at a ring dangling over a pit, and then collect the ring from the pit as quickly as possible. Don't be confused, this is NOT a regular spear-throwing contest - you will need to be good at throwing, but to win you must figure out a way to get the ring out of the pit without having to climb down there at all! And remember, even if you have knowledge of magic spells, you can not use them anywhere near the Simbani Village...

Bridge-wrestling is probably the most difficult contest, as it requires manual dexterity from you (the player), in a game of quick reflexes. You will need to undermine your opponent's balance on the bridge by performing one of four different moves, and then "countering" your opponent's move with one of four "responses", as quickly as possible. Fail to do so correctly, and you will fall off. The first contestant to fall off three times will lose this part of the trials.
6. Normally, a Simbani Initiation consists of a simple test of skills, but it occasionally turns into a competition when there is more than one person who wishes to undergo initiation. It just so happens that you will face such a competitor. Which member of the tribe is he?

Answer: Yesufu

Yesufu is the Laibon's son (a Laibon is the head of the tribe). He is very skilled, but not exceptionally bright, despite his impressive aptitude at playing Awari. Therefore you will probably be able to best him in at least two of the contests just by selecting a smarter way to pass your test.

Also, Yesufu is a very fast runner, and will probably beat you at the running contest. However, if something happens to him along the course it could guarantee your victory... but you are a Paladin, and Yesufu's friend, are you not? Be a good lad and keep the contest fair, even if Yesufu is the one who gets himself into trouble. If you can win all the other trials, losing this one will not cost you your victory.
7. What will be your reward for winning the Initiation contest?

Answer: The Drum of Magic

The Laibon will grant you one favour, and you must use that favour well, by asking for something which the Laibon would never give to you otherwise. That would be the Drum of Magic, taken from the Simbani's enemies, the Leopardmen. You will need the Drum of Magic if you are ever to convince the Leopardmen to make peace with the Simbani!

If you selected "a wife", you were wrong but still close to the right track. Fighters will not be able to marry the Leopardman prisoner until they can become respected members of the tribe, so there's no avoiding the initiation trial (you don't have to win, though). The initiation will only earn you the RIGHT to marry, not the wife herself.
8. Johari will lead you to the Leopardman village. There you will witness the secrets of the Leopardmen. But your goal is peace, which is why you will have to retrieve something from them which belongs to the Simbani. How will you do this?

Answer: None of these

By completing the Simbani initiation ritual, you will have earned the Drum of Magic, a sacred object of the Leopardmen. Therefore, it's a simple matter of exchanges - give the Leopardmen their drum, and you can then ask for the Spear of Death to take back to the Simbani.

This will convince both sides to seek peace, now that everything has been restored to its right place. The Fighter's exploits at the Leopardman village are the shortest and least interesting than for other character types. Then again, the Fighter is the only character that gets to go through the Simbani initiation.
9. You will arrive in Tarna with no armor on your body. How many different types of armor may be purchased at the Weapon stall in the Bazaar of Tarna?

Answer: 0

Unfortunately, the Weapon merchant does not sell any kind of armor. In fact, you will not come across any more armor items until Quest for Glory 5. Fortunately, the Fighter/Paladin remains more resilient than other character types due to his shield, high health scores, and strong combat skills. Paladins even more so, as after they reach a Paladin score of 80 their shield will burst with holy energy and further reduce any damage they receive during combat.

You'll have to buy a few items from the weapon merchant anyway, although they'll be used mostly as gifts or as payment, later in the plot. The only useful items you can get here are throwing spears - these are good for practice, and of course for throwing at enemies before close-combat ensues.
10. During the final confrontation at the Chaos Gate, you will need to give up something extremely valuable to you. What must you give up?

Answer: Your Flaming Sword

After defeating a stone statue (hmmm, that's familiar), you will need to cross a chasm to get to the Chaos Gate so you can destroy it. However, the Demon you're confronting will not give up easily, and will bring the statue back to life once more, to hold you firmly in place. You will have to use your Flaming Sword, Soulforge, to hack the statue's hands off you, and in the process you will lose the sword. Fortunately, that doesn't really matter, because at the beginning of the next "Quest for Glory" game, you will be stripped of all your belongings anyway...

Fighters do not have a Flaming Sword, but will receive the Spear of Death earlier to serve the same purpose. Of course, if you've done everything correctly, you should already be a Paladin by this point in the game. Continuing as a "mundane" fighter is pointless, as he has no advantage whatsoever over the Paladin.
