Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the maximum level of any attribute or skill in "Quest for Glory 3"?

Answer: 300

It's easy to remember the maximum, just take the episode number you're playing (in this case, three) and multiply by 100. This holds true for each game except the second one - you can reach 250 in that game, but only if you work out hard and even then only two attributes at most can get such a boost.
2. During your stay in the kingdom of Tarna you will meet people from many different races. Which of these races is encountered within the City of Tarna itself?

Answer: None of these answers is correct

There are people from four different races living in Tarna. In essence, Tarna is a Liontaur city, and is ruled by Liontaurs (half-men, half-lions), but has recently been populated with many Humans as well. Most Humans live in the western section, and work at the Bazaar or the commercial district. Also in the Bazaar you'll meet one Katta and one Jackal-man, both from the land of Shapeir which you visited in "Quest for Glory 2". You don't have to fight this Jackal-man though... well, maybe just to get him to stop talking.
3. What are the different types of food that may be bought at the Bazaar?

Answer: Fruit, Fish, and Meat

While you do start out with some canned rations, you'll quickly have to replenish your stocks with your choice of sustenance for the journey ahead. Don't go out to the wilderness without food, or you could die from starvation!

Meat is by far the best choice of all three. That's because Kalb, the Jackal-man and meat merchant, grovels a LOT. I think he's more of a dog-man than a jackal-man - he's always looking to please you like you were his master. In fact, he'll want to please you so badly, he'll sell those juicy steaks of his for the paltry price of 1 Copper Common, meaning you can buy mountains of the stuff if you ever need it.
4. Salim the Apothecary has run out of the main ingredient he requires to make Healing pills. You probably won't be needing too many of them, but to be on the safe side you should find the ingredient he's looking for. Which item would that be?

Answer: Feather of a Honeybird

Fortunately, you don't have to go up against a Dinosaur to get the healing pills you'll need for taking on Dinosaurs! But you might still run into one while searching for the Honeybird.

Honeybirds lure humans to beehives, and wait until the humans rob the hive. Thus, the bird gets to eat the leftovers. You'll need to find a honeybird and let it lead you to a hive. But you'll also need some way to lure the honeybird away from the hive. You can't smack it down or hurt it in any way - the feather must come from a happy bird. And you can't climb up to the bird and take the feather, because those are KILLER BEES that will easily destroy you (pwned by insects!).
5. This is the only game in the "Quest for Glory" series that does not feature Dispel Potions.

Answer: False

Salim the Apothecary can fix up a couple of Dispel Potions, but he's lacking three main ingredients (I bet you didn't see that one coming ;) ). You will need water from Erana's Peace (that's the easy one), and two different kinds of rare fruits (not very easy).

Once the potions are ready, you'll be able to buy two of them. If you're the kind of player who likes to go through a lot of dialogue, you may be able to get the potions for free. Otherwise, they are quite expensive. You'll need both potions to get through this game.
6. Any character can become a Paladin by the middle of the game. A "Paladin" attribute can be seen on your character sheet, and will accumulate points when you do good deeds (and lose them when you don't!)

Answer: False

In "Quest for Glory 2" you could take any character to Paladinhood by sticking to the code of honor. Unfortunately, in "Quest for Glory 3", only a fighter will get the chance to do this (and only by mid-game!). Still, the "Paladin" attribute will appear on any character's sheet, even if it stays at 0 for the entire duration of the game. Just to let you know what you're missing. ;)

In any case, it is really much more pleasurable to play the entire series with one character, exporting it to a file at the end of one game, then importing it into the next game. This allows you to build up your skills properly, and also grants you the ability to become a Paladin much sooner (at the end of "Quest for Glory 2"). Paladins are great, well-rounded characters to play. In the next game, "Shadows of Darkness", they will actually have one of the most interesting storylines to play out. If you're a fighter, there's really no reason not to go for it!
7. Defeating monsters in the wild is usually your best bet to get the money that's needed to buy items which help you survive encounters with monsters in the wild... and so on. Which of these monster-bashing rewards is worth the highest monetary value in "Quest for Glory 3"?

Answer: Loose Cash

Actually, "Quest for Glory 3" went easy on the combat rewards. The only item you'll really need to recover from monsters is cold, hard cash. And a lot of it, too! A single healing pill costs almost as much as you'd get for three or four fights. And even then, you'd have to be looking only for those few monsters that carry cash at all! Only about half of them do.

Still, the Dinosaur Horn is an important item for Fighters and Paladins. You can't get any money for it, but it's a good way to prove that you are a fierce warrior! So make sure you grab one of these. You won't need more than one.
8. As you go eastwards from the City of Tarna, you will pass through a Savannah and into a Jungle. The farther east you travel, the more difficult monsters you'll meet. Of the following monsters, which is encountered furthest to the east?

Answer: Ape-Man

Ape-men are quick and feisty - they attack often and hurt plenty. As you wander the eastern edge of the Jungle, you'll run into these and two other types of monsters as well...

Also, the more eastwards you go, the better your cash rewards for defeating cash-lugging monsters. This means that if you meet a Croc-Man in the Jungle, he'll be carrying more cash than one found in the Savannah, even though he's not any more dangerous.
9. During combat, you'll have a control interface at the bottom right corner of the screen showing the various actions you can perform. There's a big button in the middle of the panel - what does that button do?

Answer: Cast Magic Spells

The big button in the middle switches between physical actions and magic spells. Know your combat panel, especially so you can avoid embarrassing yourself. For some reason, combat in "Quest for Glory 3" is very obscure and doesn't always seem to work the way it should've. But knowing the buttons really helps sometimes, especially because you can use your keyboard number pad to activate those buttons.
10. How many "screens" wide is the entire wilderness map in this game?

Answer: 4

Not a tough question for anyone who's played the game, of course. There are only four screens - two are Savannah, and two are Jungle. Of course, you travel these from a very zoomed-out panoramic view, so it's not the world's tiniest geographical region. And whenever you reach a place of importance there are certainly going to be many more screens to explore.
11. How many game-days does it take to cross the entire map, from the City of Tarna to the Waterfall, assuming no stops, even for sleeping?

Answer: Roughly 2 days

If you're going to be wandering around (especially looking for monsters or trying to advance the plot a little), be sure to pack some food. But journey should normally be short, and there are several places to sleep on the way if you need them. Of course, you can sleep anywhere in the wilderness if you want to, but this carries the danger of being attacked at night.
12. Even the toughest monsters won't approach a fire, which is why the Tinderbox, bought at the Bazaar in Tarna, is one of the best items to get in the game.

Answer: False

In "Quest for Glory 3", you're much less limited about the places where you can sleep (in fact, it's the only game in the series which is so liberal about sleeping!). Sleeping in the wilderness is definitely an option, but you just might get attacked by a roving monster in the middle of the night. This is annoying, especially because you'll never get as much sleep as you were hoping for after the battle is done.

The Tinderbox IS pretty darn useful - it allows you to set up camp by lighting a small bonfire. But while this fire does decrease the chance of a nightly encounter, it's far from a guarantee, and in the deepest jungle you can pretty much expect to be attacked one out of every three nights you sleep outdoors, and that's WITH a campfire going. It would be a better idea to find one of the few safe places to sleep instead. Free hint: There are two in the Savannah, and one in the Jungle.

Oh, and, Smokey the Elephant says: "Only you can prevent forest fires!", so kindly put the fire out when you leave the camp.
13. What special bonus do you get if you sleep at the Heart of the World?

Answer: Fills your Health, Stamina, and Mana to the maximum

The hike to the top IS annoyingly long. And you do get one fruit from the Heart of the World, but you shouldn't eat it. And while it doesn't raise any attributes either, it does provide full health, stamina, and mana. This is definitely the best place to sleep in the wilderness, assuming you don't mind climbing that long, long way to the top cavern.
14. The only two skills that cannot be increased through repetitive practice are "Paladin" and "Honor". And most characters don't ever improve their "Paladin" score anyway.

Answer: False

Did this tricky half-truth confuse you? While it's true that most characters will never ever improve their Paladin score, it is quite possible to "practice" your honor - just keep feeding coins to the drummer boy at the southern end of the Bazaar. Of course, this "training session" costs 10 Commons a pop, so only do this if you really want high Honor scores and have nothing better to do with your money.

You can train almost every attribute in the game with similarly repetitive actions, and while it may detract from the enjoyment of the game, sometimes the only way to get strong enough to win is to grind a particular action for a few minutes. This is moreso in "Quest for Glory 3", but as it's much easier to train properly in the next game of the series, it's suggested that you don't try to finish the game with maxed out scores unless you have the time and the nerves to climb the Wrestling Bridge over and over again, or throw thousands of rocks at invisible opponents.

By the way, Paladins will go up in "Paladin" score together with their "Honor" score, and this will unlock their special abilities. So if you're a Paladin nearing the middle of the game and still have lots of unused cash, this would be a good time to splurge on the good old drummer boy, until your Paladin points max-out at 100.
15. The "Little People" of the deep jungle have an uncanny resemblance to what?

Answer: Monkeys

Occasionally, characters in the game will mention rumors about little people appearing at the edge of the Jungle. In fact, they belong to a race of semi-intelligent monkeys. These monkeys live in a village, deep in the jungle. It's a rather primitive society, they're not much more evolved than animals (although at least one of them can talk reasonably well).

They live up in the trees, and they create swing-ways, which are like horizontal ladders, connecting their dwellings. This way, they can swing along between the trees - a sort of monkey walkway system.
