My favorite actor is Sidney Poitier. I have read his biography "Measure of a Man," which tells of his family's arrival in Florida and how he tried to obtain acting roles, but was told that he needed to learn how to speak first. Poitier is probably best remembered for portraying Mark Thackerary in "To Sir, With Love." Everytime this movie is on I watch it. Sidney is mesmerizing as Thackerary and how he teaches his students, even though they make his life hell on wheels, and how he finally wins their approval and friendship. It also shows how he teaches them to love their selves and to respect each other and how anything and everything in life can be yours if you try and want it bad enough.

My favorite male actor is Anthony Hopkins--You can count on the fact that if he stars in the movie-it's going to be a good one. He will never let you down. My favorite female actress is Colleen Dewhurst-She has such an engaging laugh-and her voice is her fame (speaking voice). Jody Foster and Meryl Streep run a close second and third. Reply #182. My Favorite actor is Sean Astin. He is remembered as is roles in The Goonies, Rudy, The Lord Of The Rings Trilidgy, 50 First Dates, Bigger Than The Sky, and "Meerkat Manor". My favourite, and as far as I can tell, the greatest screen actor there has been, is Cary Grant. I can only think he made it all look too easy for real critical acclaim. No Oscars in his acting career beggars belief. But next time one of his old films comes on after midnight, or at two in the afternoon, watch carefully. Are you ever really sure that this guy is just what he appears to be? At the back of your mind, isn't there just a slight hint of unease? How is it that the other actors suddenly seem to be above par when sharing his scenes? In a career lasting nearly 40 years he barely turns in a poor performance. One of my favorites is James Purefoy. He was Price Edward in "A Knight's Tale". I've seen him in a few other things and I think he's great because there is no hang over in his parts. Brenda Blethyn! Snap! When I saw her in Chance in a million back in the 80s I fell instantly in love. Also Ann Beach in Fresh Fields who lived near me and invited me to see her in the theatre. My favorite actor is Mel Gibson because he is such a versatile actor, and very believable in his roles. He's also a pretty good director! My favorite actress is Julia Roberts because she's very talented, beautiful, and seems so sweet! By the way, Mel & Julia made a movie together awhile back, and it was actually not a bad movie!
