Subject: Who's Your Favorite Actor/Actress & Why?

Posted by: juniorthejaws

My favorite actor is Sidney Poitier. I have read his biography "Measure of a Man," which tells of his family's arrival in Florida and how he tried to obtain acting roles, but was told that he needed to learn how to speak first. Poitier is probably best remembered for portraying Mark Thackerary in "To Sir, With Love." Everytime this movie is on I watch it. Sidney is mesmerizing as Thackerary and how he teaches his students, even though they make his life hell on wheels, and how he finally wins their approval and friendship. It also shows how he teaches them to love their selves and to respect each other and how anything and everything in life can be yours if you try and want it bad enough.

Who is your favorite actor/actress and why?

Charlton Heston. He had a commanding performence in "The Planet of the Apes" (was never a big fan of the Mark Wahlberg version), as well as "The Ten Commandments."

It would be impossible for me to choose on one actor/actress as a favorite, so here's a short list of just a few:

Anthony Hopkins
Diane Lane
Brian Dennehy
Peter O'Toole
Kathy Bates
Tom Hanks
Christine Baranski

Clint Eastwood! Both as an actor and as a director, he has matured into one of the best.

Hard to say for me. I'm more into the comedy genre, and I was a big fan of the Rush Hour movies, so Chris Tucker is at the top of my list. Adam Sandler is another good one

There are so many but a few come to mind. I prefer actors from some of the more classic older movies.

Jimmy Stewart
Cary Grant
Barbara Stanwyck (especially in Stella Dallas)
Grace Kelly

Jhonny Depp- Cool and weird caracthers.
Julia Roberts-I see 15 movies with her. But Susan Sarandon is the best for me.

Actors: Tom Hanks, Nicolas Cage, Joe Pesci, Vincent D'Onofrio, Charlie Chaplin. I think all these guys are great talents because...Example: when you hear Hanks as Woody, you don't think about "Forrest Gump", when you see Pesci as the bad guy in "Home Alone" you don't think "Hey, my cousin Vinny". Chaplin is a given, his talent is beyond words.
Actresses: Goldie Hawn, Bette Midler, Diane Keaton, Jamie Lee Curtis. I've liked Goldie ever since I saw her in "Overboard", Keaton since "Father of the Bride" and when those two got together with Bette in "The First Wives Club", well that was an instant classic for me. I liked Jamie Lee as Shelly in "My Girl" and I enjoy her on screen style and air.

My favorite actor still in the land of the living is Christian Bale. Why? His craft speaks for itself but I was 16 years old working in a movie theater in 1987. Empire of the Sun was on the silver screen. I knew he was a talent to watch and I have followed his career ever since. HIs performance in All the Little Animals deserved an Oscar nod. When he finally was recognized for The fighter I believe I was more excited than he was!

I have always liked:

Montgomery Clift
Susan Hayward
Tim Roth
Gary Oldman
Willem Dafoe
Christopher Walken
Philip Seymour Hoffman
Frances McDormand
Jeff Bridges

All very, very good at practicing their craft. There are others that aren't on this list. My favorite though is an actor that didn't act in many films or television shows. He acted in quite a few theatre plays. I think he will always be known for his singular brilliance as Sherlock Holmes.

Jeremy Brett:

I could just close my eyes and listen to Brett's voice. I miss him. No other actor in my view ever captured Sherlock Holmes like he did.

I agree about Morgan Freeman. He just seems like a classy human being and makes movies better just by being in them, even the bad ones.

My favorite actress has to be Zooey Deschanel. She is very smart in choosing what roles she plays and what movies she does. She is careful to avoid most obviously mainstream films. And she is good at doing TV as well, as evident by the success of "The New Girl". It also does not hurt that she is quite attractive without having to flaunt it.
