He was hired as the architect. Actually Sloan was both the main architect and Trent's best man. When it was decided that a part of the Towers would become a hotel, Trent brought in his best friend Sloan to be the architect. He also needed him for a best man at his wedding. Trent and Amanda met in town when they literally ran into one another.
Monaco. He had just won a race and was in Monaco celebrating when the fax finally reached him about his father's car crash.
Grandson. Seth was Ray's grandson from an affair Ray had had some years earlier. Ray was in the process of adopting the boy when he died and left Seth in the care of his other sons.
