Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who was the first kid to start disappearing from the real world?

Answer: David

Jalil showed April a six-inch hole in his chest. It was perfectly round and went right through his body. When April visited Christopher, he showed her his own chest. It was almost see-through. He told her that when he watched TV and really got into a show, he stopped fading.

However, when April first fell asleep she learned that David had been completely missing for days. In Everworld, David admitted that when he went to sleep, he dreamt, and he also went back to the real-world- only he was invisible and couldn't be heard by anyone.
2. David divided everyone up to prepare for the fight with the Sennites and the Hetwan. What was Merlin's job?

Answer: To find Mjolnir

Goewynne left to gather the rest of her people, elves. David and his friends, along with Etain, went to the dwarf kingdom to get enough gold to hire the incredibly fast faerie archers. Merlin knew that if they were able to free Baldur, Thor, and Odin, the Vikings would rally to fight against the Hetwan and Ka Anor. He left to find Thor's powerful hammer Mjolnir.
3. What was in the dwarfs' Great Diggings hills?

Answer: Gold, copper, iron, nickel, silver

The Great Diggings housed the Five Hills. Each hill contained its own kind of metal- one had gold, one had silver, the others had copper, nickel, and iron. April knew that it was of course impossible geologically for five different kinds of metals to be so near one another, but it was Everworld, and the normal rules did not apply. The dwarfs were skilled using all types of metals.
4. Where was April when she first started to disappear?

Answer: In her room in Everworld

Unlike David, Jalil, and Christopher, April began to disappear in Everworld. She guessed that the kids had to make a choice- the real world, or Everworld. When the dwarfs showed April her room, she stripped and got into her nightgown to sleep. She almost screamed when she noticed a small hole in her chest. Everworld April was fading away.
5. What did Christopher say to April when she said he might lose the real world?

Answer: "Would that be so awful?"

Christopher asked "Would that be so awful, April?" He then gave a profound speech. He told her that the real world, for him, just wasn't enough any more. At first, Christopher was okay with the stereotypical life drawn out for him: getting a job, going bald, gaining weight, having a heart attack. But after being in Everworld, his view on life changed dramatically.
6. Why were detectives at April's house?

Answer: They questioned her about David

April assumed the cops were there to question her about Senna, who was missing in the real world and dead in Everworld. But they were there to ask about David, who had also been missing. April had called his mother to see for herself if it was true. Detective Costello was very suspicious of April, who pretended she didn't have a clue about David's whereabouts.
7. What were Baldwin's conditions for helping the kids?

Answer: He wanted to marry Etain and have Jalil work for him

King Baldwin had always wanted to be with Etain, so he demanded her in return for his services. Jalil offered to get electricity into the Great Diggings. He offered to create a cable car, make a telegraph line, and create lights for the underground. Jalil also mentioned there were no limits to electricity.

In exchange, Baldwin had his dwarfs dig a hole to Hel's domain and provided them with gold.
8. What happened during April's date?

Answer: Her face began to fade

Before she went to sleep, April mentioned she would attempt to contact Brigid in the real world. Instead, she was questioned by the police and decided to go on a date. She felt it was time she made her own decisions. During dinner, her date cried out and pointed to her face. Sure enough, April's cheek was completely hollow.
9. Why was there an ambulance at Christopher's house?

Answer: His mother had seen his faded body

Christopher was changing his shirt when his mother came in to put away some clean laundry. She saw how much of his body had faded away, and an ambulance arrived soon after. All April could see of Christopher was his head, a shoulder, and part of his stomach.

She could smell alcohol coming from his mother. Christopher acted giddy as he was wheeled away on a stretcher. He knew his time in the real world was growing short.
10. What did Etain give April before she went back to Hel's domain?

Answer: Her sword

April, David, and Christopher left together. Jalil stayed behind because the dwarfs wanted to protect their genius. Etain approached the trio and offered April her elfin sword, which was enchanted. She told April that she felt as close as a sister to her.
11. What did the kids put on their horses?

Answer: Blindfolds and flowers

Because Hel's domain stunk so badly, the kids' horses were given wreaths of fragrant flowers and herbs. The smell would drive the horses crazy. Also, the way to Hel was narrow and headed downward. The blindfolds would keep them from panicking.
12. Who came to the rescue when the kids were attacked by zombies?

Answer: April

April felt dismay when Galahad's sword, held by David, did nothing to stop the eleven approaching slaves of Hel. Christopher's sword was just a dwarf sword, so April attacked. Etain's enchanted elfin sword handled the zombies as April shut her mind down and killed every single zombie.
13. The kids went in with five horses. How many did they emerge with?

Answer: Zero

April, David, and Christopher went down into Hel's lair with five horses- one for each of them, plus a horse to carry Thor and Baldur. During the attack of the flying gargoyle-like vampire creatures, Christopher let loose the two extra horses. When the kids ran into the eleven zombie-like men, David and Christopher's horses were dragged into a large pit. Finally, Hel killed April's horse without even physically touching it.
14. Who prevented Hel from killing April?

Answer: Odin

Hel held a special hatred for April because she had escaped her domain before- and she was beautiful, something the goddess of the Underworld could not stand. The two fought, but April ended up wrapped in gutlike cords that strangled her. Loki appeared and demanded Hel to release her.

She refused, but eventually Odin, the All-Father, commanded it. Merlin had managed to convince Loki to set the All-Father free.
15. Which Everworld kid left a note to their parents?

Answer: Jalil

The story ended with a newspaper clip detailing the disappearance of five local kids. The only connection the police had was Senna knew most of them. Jalil was the only one who left a note to his parents, and it wasn't especially helpful to the detectives. It said "It's okay. Please don't worry. I love you all." Jalil knew that he would be disappearing into Everworld.
