Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. I know some people think they are Napoleon or that they can fly but this guy sung "I'm Gonna Be A Wheel Some Day". Who is he?

Answer: Fats Domino

"I'm Gonna Be A Wheel Some Day" was a number 17 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 for Fats Domino in 1959. It did not chart in the UK

"I'm Gonna Be A Wheel Some Day" was written by Roy Hayes/Fats Domino/Dave Bartholomew. It was the B-side of "I Want To Walk You Home" which peaked at number eight on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 14 on the UK singles chart in 1959.

Fats Domino was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986. He was awarded the Grammy Lifetime Achievement in 1987.

2. Helen Reddy's "I Am Woman" served as an anthem for the women's liberation movement. It also topped the Billboard Hot 100 in 1972, and was the first song of which kind to do so?

Answer: First number one sung by an Australian

Australian singer Helen Reddy co-wrote "I Am Woman" with Ray Burton. The song was recorded in 1970, although it wasn't released until two years later. Helen won a Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for it in 1973.

Elvis Presley's "Love Me Tender" was the first number one single to replace a single by the same artist when it knocked "Hound Dog" off the top spot. The Italian singer Domenico Modugno's "Nel Blu Dipinto Di Blu (Volare)" was the first non-English language number one, and "The Happy Organ" by Dave "Baby" Cortez was the first instrumental single. (All based on Billboard Hot 100)

3. "I'm A _______" is a title used by Bo Diddley, The Spencer Davis Group, and Pulp. What word fills the gap?

Answer: Man

The Spencer Davis Group's "I'm A Man" was a hit both sides of the pond in 1967 and it hasn't aged a bit. Its organ-led driving energy is just about the grooviest thing to have ever come out of Birmingham, and 19-year-old Steve Winwood's world-wise vocals never fail to astound me.

In true rhythm and blues fashion, Bo Didley's 1955 hit "I'm A Man" was something of a continuation of Muddy Waters' "Hoochie Coochie Man", and following Bo's success Muddy took the baton and ran with one of his signature songs "Mannish Boy". All three have been covered countless times, mostly rather pointlessly since both Bo and Muddy were insurmountable.

Pulp's "I'm A Man" can be found on their sixth album, 1998's "This Is Hardcore". Jarvis Cocker's witty parody of pitiable male posturing is sharp as a knife.

About the red herrings: "I'm A Pig" is by American punk band Angry Samoans, "I'm A Rebel" is the title track on German metal band Accept's second album, and "I'm A Rocker" has been used by numerous artists such as Chuck Berry, Slade, Jerry Lee Lewis, Judas Priest, and Chas and Dave.

4. "I'm Walking Behind You" was a US and UK number one hit for Princess Leia Organa's dad. Who was he?

Answer: Eddie Fisher

"I'm Walking Behind You" was a number one hit on the US and UK singles chart in 1953 for Eddie Fisher. It was his only record to top both charts.

"I'm Walking Behind You" was written by Billy Reid. The song is about a man walking down the aisle as his prospective bride marries someone else, (he would be classed as a stalker these days). He didn't do too badly in real life as he married actress Debbie Reynolds, then actress Elizabeth Taylor, then actress Connie Stevens, then ex-Miss Louisiana, Terry Richard and finally businesswoman Betty Lin.

He was born Edwin John Tisch in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, in 1928. He died in Berkeley, California, USA, due to complications from hip surgery aged 82.

5. In their 1988 hit single, how many miles did The Proclaimers claim they were going to be? "I'm Gonna Be (______) Miles"

Answer: 500

"I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" is one of those songs that either have you stomping around like it's Hogmanay, or lunging for the skip button on your listening device. I fall into the first group and almost wish I'd been born north of the border when I hear this, or any songs by The Proclaimers actually.

"I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" can be found on the band's second album "Sunshine on Leith", the title track of which has been adopted by Hibs (Hibernian F.C.), whilst "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" has been adopted by the Scotland national football team to rouse the crowd, and it does a sterling job.

I don't think any of the red herrings have ever been recorded, although Mike Oldfield did release an album called "Five Miles Out" in 1982.

6. "I'm Happy Just To Dance With You" was a track on The Beatles album "A Hard Day's Night". Which member of The Beatles sang lead vocal on it?

Answer: George Harrison

"I'm Happy Just To Dance With You" was the fourth track on The Beatles album "A Hard Day's Night" which was number one for 21 weeks on the UK album chart in 1964.

"I'm Happy Just To Dance With You" was written by Lennon/McCartney. It was written specifically for George to sing. It is one of the few songs written by Lennon/McCartney with George Harrison singing the lead vocal.

The song was not released as a single A or B-side in the UK but was released as the B-Side of "I'll Cry Instead" by The Beatles in the US. "I'll Cry Instead" peaked at number 25 and "I'm Happy Just To Dance With You" peaked at number 95 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1964.

7. What is the missing word from the title of the Johnny Mathis UK hit "I'm _____ In Love With You"?

Answer: Stone

"I'm Stone In Love With You" was a number ten hit on the UK singles chart for Johnny Mathis in 1975. It did not chart in the US.

"I'm Stone In Love With You" was written by Thom Bell/Linda Creed/Anthony Bell and was originally a hit for The Stylistics in 1972. It peaked at number ten on the Billboard Hot 100 and number nine on the UK singles chart.

Johnny Mathis has charted over 70 albums on the Billboard album chart. His 1958 "Greatest Hits" album was on the Billboard album chart for 490 weeks and was the first ever "Greatest Hits" collection to be released.

8. How old was Alice Cooper claiming to be on the 1971 album "Love It To Death"? Which number fills in the blank? "I'm ________"

Answer: Eighteen

On the single version, the track was just called "Eighteen". It was the band's third single, but the first to chart, and one of their most successful ever.

The album "Love It To Death" was the band's third too, and is often as far back as most people go, which is a shame since the two previous albums ("Pretties For You" and "Easy Action") are well-worth the effort. Nevertheless, "Love It To Death" is where the band really hit their stride and started writing catchy songs. "I'm Eighteen" is a perfect example of the vicious attitude the band were sporting.

I'm way past eighteen but it still strikes a chord with me. Here's a snippet of the lyrics:

"Eighteen I just don't know what I want,
I got a baby's brain and an old man's heart,
Took eighteen years to get this far,
Don't always know what I'm talkin' about,
Feels like I'm livin' in the middle of doubt,
'cause I'm eighteen I get confused every day,
Eighteen I just don't know what to say,
Eighteen I gotta get away"

About the red herrings: "When I'm Sixty-Four" is a song by the Beatles on their album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, "I'm One" is on The Who's Quadrophenia, and "I'm Old Enough" is on The Frankie Miller Band's album "The Rock".

9. UK radio comedy group The Goons had a hit with "I'm Walking Backwards For _________". What is the missing word in the title?

Answer: Christmas

"I'm Walking Backwards For Christmas/Bluebottle Blues" was a double A-Side number four hit on the UK singles chart in 1956. It did not chart in the US.

The Goons were Michael Bentine (1951 - 1953), Spike Milligan, Harry Secombe and Peter Sellers. They all went on to succeed as individual performers on stage, TV, in movies and on record.

The Goons had two double A-Side Top Ten hits on the UK singles chart in the '50s and the "Ying Tong Song" peaked at number nine on re-release in 1973. Without The Goons radio shows of the '50s and '60s there would have been no "Monty Python's Flying Circus".

10. The song "I'm Against It" was on the album "Road To Ruin" by one of punk rock's biggest ever names. Who were the four fake brothers from New York who recorded it?

Answer: Ramones

"Road To Ruin" was a watershed album for the Ramones, and although most pundits focus on the band's first three albums, I think they did well to add, dare I say it, depth. Let's not overdo it mind, the longest song is still only 3:22 ("Questioningly") and they packed twelve songs into just over half an hour, but the sound is a bit cleaner and the songs are slightly more complex.

"I'm Against It" is an as-punk-as-it-gets diatribe in which Joey vents his spleen against politics, communists, games and fun , Jesus freaks, circus geeks, summer and spring, sex and drugs, water bugs, ping pong, Viet Cong, and even Burger King! I wonder if the band were inspired by Groucho Marx's song of the same name in the Marx Brothers' film "Horse Feathers".

The Cockney Rejects, two of whom are real brothers, did "I'm Not A Fool", The Cramps, two of whom were husband and wife, did "I'm Cramped", and Angelic Upstarts, none of whom are related, did "I'm An Upstart". None of the red herrings are from New York.
