Answer: Jim Thome

The others listed were not even in the top five. Thome, in his 13th season in the big leagues, hit 47 for the Phillies. In 2002, he smacked 52, but was still runner-up to Alex Rodriguez of the Rangers who hit 57. After 12 seasons with the Indians, this was Thome's first season in the National League and with Philadelphia. In his previous eight seasons, Thome had hit 355 home runs.
2. 2003 Florida Marlin star Pudge Rodriguez, signed a multi-year contract to which team in 2004?

Answer: Detroit Tigers

Ivan Rodriguez shocked the baseball world by signing with the lowly Tigers. In 2003, the Tigers finished the season with the worst record in baseball, a 43-119 season. Rodriguez spent his first 12 seasons with the Texas Rangers before going to the Marlins in 2003. Rodriguez will take over the duties for Tiger catcher Brandon Inge.

Answer: New York Yankees

None of the other teams existed in the 1950s. The Yankees ruled the decade, picking up where they left off in the 40s. After winning the 1949 World Series, the Yankees then strung four consecutive wins in the 1950s. After missing the promised land in 1954, the Yankees then made four more consecutive appearances in the decade. Their 1950s World Series record was 6-2.

Nobody reached the 50 plateau in 2003. Jim Thome of the Phillies led the Majors by hitting 47.

Philip Francis 'Scooter' Rizzuto played 13 seasons, all with the Yankees. This consistent-numbered shortstop was the American League MVP runner-up in 1949, then won the award in 1950. He went to nine World Series with the Yankees, winning seven of them.
