Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This team was like a WART HOG ON NASTINESS for 60 seasons in baseball, because they won only one World Series in the team's history. So, they loaded up the truck and they moved not to Beverly Hills, but Minnesota. Who was this team that joined the American League in 1901?

Answer: Washington Senators

The Senators won their sole World Series in 1924 with the help of the great Walter Johnson, who won his second season MVP and his third Triple Crown. Washington defeated the New York Giants in that series. The team became the Twins for the 1961 season. While in Minnesota, the Twins won their first World Series in 1987.
2. The Atlanta Braves franchise has had many names in their history. The franchise became the Atlanta Braves in 1966. The franchise began in Boston, and over the years having many nicknames. In 1953, they moved from Boston because their franchise had only A KABULS MERE VIEW that did not suit their needs. What team did they become in 1953?

Answer: Milwaukee Braves

The franchise was a charter member of the new National League in 1876 as the Boston Red Caps. They've also had the name of Boston Beaneaters, Doves, Rustlers, Bees, and finally the Braves. In 1995, the franchise won their third World Series.
3. No matter what they call it, Wrigley Field will always be Wrigley Field. It was the home of the Chicago Cubs for over 100 seasons. The franchise began in the new National League in 1876 as the Chicago White Stockings, and they won the inaugural National League pennant. In 1890, they changed their name for eight seasons. SO CATCH LOGIC and see if you can name that team.

Answer: Chicago Colts

The 1876 White Stockings team was led by the arm of pitcher Al Spalding who went 47-12, and the bats of Ross Barnes and Cap Anson. Eight of the team's ten batters hit over .300, and Barnes batted .429. From 1876-1886, the team won six National League crowns. After being named the Colts, the franchise changed their name to the Orphans from 1898-1902. The Cubs name came in 1903.
4. The New York Yankees have had a storied franchise. However, they were not always the Yankees from New York. In 1903, they were the New York Highlanders, but this was not their roots. The franchise's first season in 1901 was dismal, and many players became a SOLITAIRE BLOOMER because they weren't motivated and even finished in last place in 1902. After the season, the team moved to New York. Who were they?

Answer: Baltimore Orioles

The Orioles were one of eight new teams to join the new American League in 1901. They finished 13.5 games back of the Chicago White Stockings in 1901, then the bottom fell out. In 1902, they won only 50 games and finished last, 34 games back. In 1903, the Highlanders went 72-62 and finished fourth, then improved the following season when they won 92 games and finished only 1.5 games behind Boston.
5. This team was a new expansion team in 1969, and should have been named the PASTEL TOILETS due to the way the team played. It took only one season as their fans ran them out of town to become the Milwaukee Brewers. Which last place team was this?

The team was under the helm of Joe Schultz and went 64-98 for a last place finish in the AL West, 33 games back of the Twins. The franchise saw their first World Series in 1982, but lost to the Cardinals four games to three.
6. The St. Louis Cardinals carried the Cardinal name throughout the entire 20th century, but the team had a SOFT CREEP about them in 1899, and were named what?

Answer: Perfectos

The franchise began in the American Association in 1882 as the St. Louis Brown Stockings. They jumped to the National League with the St. Louis Browns name. The 1899 St. Louis Perfectos finished fifth in the NL, 18.5 games back of Brooklyn. The team had the talent with pitchers Cy Young and Jack Powell, and the bats of Jesse Burkett and Emmet Heidrick.
7. The Angels weren't always located in Anaheim. Which west coast city that they could SEE GALLONS of water from, was their first home?

Answer: Los Angeles

The Angels franchise began in 1961. Their first ballpark in Los Angeles was Wrigley Field. Bill Rigney managed the team, and they finished eighth of ten teams. In 1962, the team went 86-76. The Angels found their first World Series crown in 2002 under the guidance of Mike Scioscia.
8. The Philadelphia Athletics were an integral part of the American League, beginning in 1901. In 1955, the Athletics finally moved to another city until the 1968 season when they became the Oakland Athletics. Which city did they move from that might have had a SATANIC SKY?

Answer: Kansas City

Manager Connie Mack had the Philadelphia club from 1901-1950, a feat that will never be duplicated. After not seeing a World Series in almost 25 years, the franchise moved to Kansas City. In Kansas City, the team never finished better than sixth place in 13 seasons, so the move was made to Oakland. The franchise won three consecutive World Series from 1972-1974.
9. The Dodger franchise has had many name changes throughout their history. They came into the Major Leagues in 1901 with one of baseball's strangest team names. Although the Brooklyn team did not have a case of the SEA BURPS, they changed their name to the Dodgers in 1911. Which team name was this?

Answer: Superbas

Ironically, after they changed their name from the Bridegrooms after the 1898 season, the Superbas won the next two National League titles in 1899 and 1900. In 1958, the franchise made the move to the west coast to become the Los Angeles Dodgers, as did the New York Giants moved to San Francisco.
10. The Indians franchise began in 1901 in the American League, but their name was the Cleveland Blues in the season. To try and COVER BOLD CHANNELS, they changed it again in 1902, then again in 1903 to the Naps. What was this 1902 name?

Answer: Cleveland Bronchos

None of their name changes helped the club in its first decade. The name Indians was introduced in 1915, in honor of the first American-Indian to play professional baseball in Cleveland. He was Chief Louis Sockalexis who played with the defunct Cleveland Spiders of the National League.

After the name change to Indians, the team began improving, finding a second place in 1918 and 1919, then winning their first World Series in 1920.
