In 1965, Minnesota experienced their first World Series, but lost to the Dodgers four games to three. In 1987, they defeated the Cardinals four games to three, but still with no road game wins. Nonetheless, the Twins snatched their second World Series in five years in 1991 when ex-Tiger ace Jack Morris won a gutty 1-0 extra inning seventh game.

The Braves were on the losing end of the stick.

In one of the lowest run totals in a series, Both Babe Ruth and Carl Mays of Boston didn't allow the Cubs more than two runs in a game. No home runs were hit in the series, and Boston scored only nine total runs of their own.

Stewart was an Oakland pitcher. Pretty amazing as both Mark McGwire and Jose Canseco were touted as Oakland's big guns, having combined 330 hits and 74 home runs during the regular season. In game one, Canseco was the hero with a grand slam in the second inning, but that moment would later be overshadowed by Kirk Gibson's infamous pinch-hit home run in the bottom of the ninth for the Dodgers. McGwire's only hit was a game-winning home run in game three.

This was the Dodgers' only loss. Oakland was defeated four games to one.

Hershisher won the MVP honors and struck out 17 Athletics.

Jerry Koosman and John Matlack, along with the relief of Tug McGraw nearly brought the Mets their second World Championship. But on the other side it was Darold Knowles who appeared in all the games, all in relief, and copped two saves in the process.

The A's won four games to three, and Reggie Jackson was the series MVP.
