The end of "Assassin's Apprentice". You have to read the whole thing to understand but it makes me cry every time I read it. Reply #141. Jul 17 08, 9:03 AM |

"Roots" by Alex Haley. I read it when I was a college student. I was reading it at work (LOL) and crying my eyes out. Reply #142. Jul 17 08, 10:48 AM |

The Subtle Knife made me cry, as did the last Dark Tower book. Quite a few of Bryce Courtenay's books have also made me cry, I just get so attached to the characters. Reply #144. Aug 11 08, 7:02 AM |

oh yes rayven! "I dream of carving my own dragon" That gets me too, every time :-) It's like "look Raist, bunnies" from Test of the Twins by Weis and Hickman, that's another where you have to have read all 6 books to 'get it' Reply #145. Aug 12 08, 6:34 AM |

I cried after reading "Fighting for Dear Life: The Untold Story of Terry Schiavo" by David C. Gibbs III. He was the head lawyer in her case and he spoke at my church. I have an autographed copy of the book. I cried at church when he told us what really happened, and then I cried again when I read the book he wrote. I highly reccommend it, it may not change your mind about what happened if you think what happened was okay, but it will make you think and to me that's the mark of a good book. Reply #147. Benniebenbenny, I can imagine that did hurt having the Complete Works of Shakespeare fall on your foot. I have it here and that is one heavy book. Reply #148. Aug 18 08, 9:47 AM |

So Many! "My Sister's Keeper" most recently. The Harry Potter books definitely. Several parts in Anne McCaffrey's Dragon Riders series, when Robinton dies, and Moreta and her dragon in Moreta's Ride. I don't think a book is really good unless it can make you feel strong emotion - whether it's sadness or happiness, or even makes you laugh. Reply #150. Aug 24 08, 7:30 AM |

My ex and my kids think I'm loony when I start crying while reading - but then none of them read anything unless they absolutely have to. Reply #152. Aug 27 08, 1:02 PM |

It is a long time ago (though I was probably very old for a first time reader) - Wind in the Willows when Mole wanted to visit his house and Ratty would not. Also it annoys me thinking back -Ratty is NOT a rat - he is a water vole - like confusing a man and a monkey. Reply #153. Sep 05 08, 10:32 AM |

I happen to be the toughest man there is alive so of course I don't cry. But if I did then " Captain Corelli's Mandolin " might do it for me. It's a brilliantly written book that can bring out every emotion. Reply #154. Sep 05 08, 7:34 PM |

I too cry in various parts of the Dragonrider series by Anne McCaffery. I also cry every time when I read the part when Beth dies in Little Women, just watching the trailer for the movie makes me tear up when I see Beth looking ill. Reply #155. Sep 10 08, 5:42 PM |

This is slightly embarassing. OK, its really embarassing, but, when I was 8-9ish, I read Anne of Green Gables. and guess what? I cried. Hard. An emotional read for me know is A Tale of Two Cities. Reply #159. Sep 22 08, 2:26 PM |

Well, one day in Walmart a couple years back, I picked up the book A Boy Called It and flipped to a random chapter in it while my mom was picking out movies. I read 5 sentences and I put the book down really fast and almost started bawling. It's so sad. Reply #160. Oct 04 08, 8:14 PM |
