Subject: Books that make you cry

Posted by: crazycube

I like reading sad books, especially books with sad endings, I recently read a book about a troublesome boy who starts to bond with his foster mother only to find she is dying of cancer. I can't remember the name of the book. What books have made you cry?

I don't understand how Wuthering Heights can make anyone cry, it has such a strange storyline, and the characters are hard to warm to.

I can't remember the last time I read a book that didn't make me cry. I don't think a book is truly good unless it makes you cry.

The Bridges of Madison County, the only book that made me cry.
By the way, I hate the movie; C. Eastwood didn't feet with the caracter.

I agree with hplover13. Crying is a must in books and it really freaks out my friends when I'm reading and suddenly start bawling. The Farseer Trilogy and The Tawnyman Trilogy by Robin Hobb made me cry. (I didn't read the second book of the Fareseer Trilogy because after i accidentally read the third book before reading the second, I didn't want to because I knew the gists of what would happen and didn't want to cry for hours.)

I cried also when I read the 5th Narnia book, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, and The Giver. Alot of books make me sad, but I don't actually cry, but it would take forever to list them all.

~I'm a crying freak, so I will also find something sad in a book. Born Blue made me cry when Leyshaya's mom says she has AIDS. It reminded me of 'Rent'.
~Any Holocaust book is depressing.
~In Ida B. when her mother is dying of cancer made me sob.
~Books that make you cry are the best books you'll ever read.

Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights have both been mentioned. Also, though I wasn't the biggest fan of "A Tale of Two Cities," the ending is a bit weepy...

I recently read "My Sister's Keeper" by Jodi Picoult, boy, did I weep.

One that always gets me is "Bridge to Terabithia" by Katherine Paterson.

Oh yes, A Bridge to Terabithia was sad, as was Where the Red Fern Grows. I had forgotten them; it's been so long since I read them in school.

Jane Eyre made me cry, and the A&E movie with Samantha Morton was wonderful (wasn't too fond of the William Hurt movie though).

The books Assasin's Aprentice and Assasin's Quest by Robin Hobb made me cry so much. Incidentally they are the first and third of the trilogy (accidentally forgot the second one) but my books are now tear-stained and i have never tried for the second book, Royal Assasin which seems to be even sadder.

It was "Love Story" by Erich Segal. The end was sad..... real sad.

A newer book - The Time Traveller's Wife - left me very sad. Every time I picked it up and continued reading I was transported to this other world and was unreachable to those around me. It's beautiful & poignant as well as heart-wrenching.

The Harry Potter series begun compelling, each novel ultimately solved or concluded happily. Number four, five, and six have all been wrapped up around the tragic death of an innocent and in each case noble and good-hearted individual. I have shed copious tears from the HP books over the last couple years.

"Plague Dogs" is so true and pitiful. I wept up a tsunami for Rowf and Snitter in the late stages of the novel and admit I never climbed to the climax of the story. It's a stellar read; just try to compose yourself if you are overemotional like me.

I cried when Matthew died in 'Anne of Green Gables' - I was about nine at the time. I re-read all the Anne books every so often, and I still cry when Matthew dies! And it's 60 years since I first read the book.

I agree about 'Wuthering Heights', by the way. It certainly doesn't make me cry - it makes me yawn!

Half Blood Prince made me cry. but the last book i read, "tuesday with morrie" made me cry too.
It doesn't mean that if the book that doesn't make someone cry is not a good book. What if the story is funny? I also love reading funny books, especially the one written by our local authors.

"Mystic River" and I don't know offhand who the author is.

Also.. this may seem odd. I was about 12 when I first read Orwell's "Animal Farm" and I cried when they sent the horse off to the knacker's. It was such a betrayal.
