Subject: Books that make you cry

I like reading sad books, especially books with sad endings, I recently read a book about a troublesome boy who starts to bond with his foster mother only to find she is dying of cancer. I can't remember the name of the book. What books have made you cry?

Whenever I read "A Tale of Two Cities," I cry - doesn't matter how many times I read it or see a movie version of it. The sacrifice of Sydney Carton is just awe-inspiring! I just finished reading the Wishbone version of it ("A Tale of Two Sitters" - very cute as Wishbone plays Charles Darnay) to my 9-year-old, and I cried through the last of it. What a sap! :)

Bridges of Madison County. Prince of Tides. Mister God, this is Anna. On a different note, 'Jennings' books can still make me cry with laughter!

The Golden Compass series made me cry a little. Also "Where the Red Fern Grows".

I remember reading "Flowers for Algernon" a long time ago, and sobbing until I had a headache! Great book, but definitely at least a 1-tissue-box book!

Amazing Gracie: A Dog's Tale was really sad at the end, but it was an awesome book.

Marley & Me is a real tear-jerker. Anyone who has ever shared their life with a pet will laugh and cry over this wonderful story.

I reread Bridge to Teribithia recently-I had nothing better to read. I nearly cried, but I don't cry while I read books...

The Idiot by Dostoyefski is my number one tearacker..I didnt even manage to finish the book in my previous attempts to read it because I was crying so hard. Poor Prince Miskin

Its funny how things turn out in life, I just mentionted "Flowers for Algernon" to friend yesterday when I hadnt thought of it for years, and I come here to see it mentionted twice! The part where says he realised he cannot speak German anymore was the trigger for me to start crying incontrollably.
Also, Stranaganza made me cry my eyes out, not because I liked it as a book but because of the amazing coincidences with my life. My best friend died at the age 0f 16, a month after her visit to Venice.

I can cry at the drop of a hat. But I always cry when I read "A Dog Called Kitty" it pulls at my heart strings and then the tears start flowing.

I have read "The Last of the Mohicans" several times and each time I cry. I hate it when Uncas dies, thus ending the tribe forever. Even though I know it's coming, I still cry.

I too cried when I read Angelas Ashes & the sequel 'Tis

Another is A Tale of Two Cities

I remember the first real tear jerker for me I had to read in Jr. High many years ago, and have read many times since...The Jungle by Upton Sinclair. My grandparents immigrated from Poland to Chicago... the period the book was about, and they both died young. It broke my heart reading about the struggles and living conditions many of the immigrants had to live through at that time in Chicago. It contributed to their early death. ~Joanie~

"A Walk to Remember", by Nicholas Sparks.
Very sad and good book, I cried alot, it is much better than the movie and it has a sad ending.

"Tuck Everlasting", by Natalie Babbit (or something like that.)
Very good book, I cried in it too, also, much better than the movie and it also has a sad ending.

Hope you find what you are looking for.
You should read them.
