Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who was not a new pilot for Wraith Squadron introduced in "X-wing: Iron Fist"?

Answer: Voort saBinring

The Wraiths lost three pilots during the events in "X-wing: Wraith Squadron": Jesmin Ackbar, Grinder, and Falynn Sandskimmer. When the Wraith's Nightcaller ruse was over, they were finally able to bring their squadron back up to strength.

Dia Passik, a Twi'lek, became the squadron's vehicle and criminal organization expert. Castin Donn was a human who became the squadron's new expert hacker. Shalla Nelprin was a human that became the squadron's hand-to-hand combat expert. Shalla's sister was Kel Tainer's hand-to-hand combat instructor.

Voort "Piggy" saBinring was a Gamorrean who was one of the founding members of Wraith Squadron.
2. The Wraiths, as a group, had a wide range of peculiarities and issues. One in particular led her entire life under a completely different name. Who was Lara Notsil before she joined Wraith Squadron?

Answer: Gara Petothel

Lieutenant Gara Petothel worked for Admiral Apwar Trigit during the events in "X-wing: Wraith Squadron". She was a former Imperial Intelligence operative, and had a hand in organizing the destruction of Myn Donos' former squadron, Talon Squadron.

During the Battle of Ession (At the end of "X-wing: Wraith Squadron"), Trigit ordered the crew of his Star Destroyer to continue fighting while he secretly slipped out in his personal, modified TIE Interceptor. Gara Petothel was furious, and ordered the crew to abandon ship and set the self-destruct. She injected a cocktail of chemicals to change her appearance and voice, and even DNA so she could slip into a new identity: Lara Notsil.

With her new disguise, Gara planned to return to Zsinj, but Face asked her for her help in a personal mission. She jumped on the opportunity to join the New Republic military and sabotage it from within. Things did not go as planned, and she became attached to her fellow pilots, and came to understand how her former views were flawed. Slowly Gara Petothel disappeared, and she truly became Lara Notsil.

Iella Wessiri was Corran Horn's partner at CorSec, and moved to New Republic Intelligence. She helped Rogue Squadron bring down Ysanne Isard, the former leader of the Imperial Remnant. Apwar Trigit commanded the Implacable in Warlord Zsinj's employ. The Wraith's Night Caller operation brought down Trigit.
3. Because Zsinj was not part of the Empire, and he didn't have to use standard stormtroopers; he had his own special brand of troops and ships. What were Zsinj's troops called?

Answer: Raptors

Zsinj created his own brand of troops that were a cross between stormtroopers and Imperial Guards. They were extremely deadly, and completely loyal to Zsinj. Raptors generally thought that they were better than the local stormtroopers used to police imperial worlds (and rightly so), which created friction between Zsinj's forces and the planetary populations within his influence.

Dark Troopers were a form of very dangerous robotic stormtroopers. Kyle Katarn brought down the Dark Trooper project in the video game "Dark Forces". Shadow Troopers were used by Desann during his attempt to destroy the Jedi in the video game "Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast". Kyle Katarn helped resolve this situation also. Advanced Recon Commandos were a subset of elite clone troopers used during the Clone Wars.
4. The Wraiths were incredibly resourceful, and managed to pull off an astounding number of successful missions. However, they were not invincible, and sometimes they experienced fatalities. On which planet did Ton Phanan die?

Answer: Halmad

Ton Phanan was the Wraith's doctor, which was ironic because he was allergic to the miracle remedy, bacta.

The Wraiths, disguised as Hawkbat Mercenaries, engaged Zsinj at the planet Halmad, and Ton was shot down. Face, Ton's best friend and wingman, landed his own fighter on the surface to mount a rescue mission. Face found Ton, but Ton's condition was too severe, and he later died. Ton used his last moments with his friend to compose his will and final remarks.

Ton refused to surrender to get medical treatment, saying that they were both too recognizable, and that turning themselves in would jeopardize the entire campaign against Zsinj. During his escape, Face used his fighter's laser cannons to cremate Ton.

Ton left Face all his money on the condition that Face use it to remove his distinctive scar, and stop beating himself up for what he perceived to be past mistakes. If Face had refused to do this, the money would have gone to Face's childhood nemesis and fellow actor, Tetran Cowall.

Coruscant was the capital of the New Republic, and where the Wraith's got to spend their leave. Folor was the New Republic training base for pilots. Both the Rogues and Wraiths were stationed at Folor for training. Yag'Dhul was the system that the Rogues used as a base of operations during "The Bacta War".
5. Who was Zsinj's second-in-command?

Answer: General Melvar

General Melvar was Zsinj's second-in command. He enjoyed trying to terrify those around him. He would try to sneak up on and scare Zsinj (much to Zsinj's irritation), and generally kept a bland, yet cruel appearance.

Captain Netbers was Zsinj's hand-to-hand specialist, and was asked to evaluate Shalla Nelprin's abilities.

Captain Todrin Rossik was with Tavin Notsil when Lara Notsil went to rendezvous with Zsinj's intelligence agents. Lara chose the New Republic over Zsinj, and shot Rossik.

Lieutenant Bradan was leader of the boarding party responsible for taking control of the new Super Star Destroyer that Zsinj planned to steal.
6. Zsinj had a plan to augment his fleet with a new Super Star Destroyer; he planned to steal from the Imperial Remnant while it was still under construction. Where was the new Super Star Destroyer being built?

Answer: Kuat

Fondor and Kuat were both planets well-known for their impressive shipyards. They both produced Star Destroyers for the Imperial Navy. Mon Calamari was also a major shipbuilding planet, but they built large cruisers for the Rebel Alliance.

Zsinj hired a number of mercenary bands to help him in an attack. He gave them all expected enemy strengths, which led many to assume that Zsinj would be attacking Coruscant. In truth, Zsinj gave near equivalent strengths, but represented by New Republic Ships. His actual targets were the shipyards at Kuat, defended by the Imperial Remnant.

Wedge deduced Zsinj's true target well before the attack, and the Wraiths were better able to prepare their own response to the situation.
7. What was the name of the Super Star Destroyer Zsinj stole from the Imperial Remnant?

Answer: Razor's Kiss

It was a well-kept secret that there was a Super Destroyer, Razor's Kiss, under construction at Kuat. It was near completion, but not operational. As a result, it had very few personnel on board. Zsinj put together a task force to take care of the security aboard the ship and then fly it away.

Wedge and Wraith Squadron created their own plan to prevent Zsinj from acquiring a second Super Star Destroyer, and ultimately Razor's Kiss was destroyed. This was the single greatest defeat Zsinj had experienced.

Iron Fist was Zsinj's first Super Star Destroyer. Lusankya was Isard's personal Super Star Destroyer. It was originally thought to be a prison, until it lifted off Coruscant. She then used it during "The Bacta War". Chimera was a Star Destroyer used by Grand Admiral Thrawn during Timothy Zahn's "Thrawn Trilogy".
8. The Wraiths became a little extravagant with their Hawkbat ruse, and claimed to have an Ewok amongst their pilots. Wedge even had to fly a mission with an Ewok toy to maintain the charade. When talking to Zsinj's pilots, which of the following was not in the "Ewok's" definition of "projects"?

Answer: Shoot Rebles

Lieutenant Kettch, the Ewok pilot, was a joke that went a little too far. Wes Janson teased Wedge during the formation of Wraith Squadron by saying that one of the candidates was a modified Ewok named Kettch. In "Iron Fist" a life-sized Ewok doll made its way into the Wraiths' base. Eventually Face told Zsinj that they had an Ewok pilot, which elicited an unexpected response from Zsinj. It gave the Wraiths a clue about Zsinj's cruel experiments.

News that the Hawkbats had an Ewok pilot spread through Zsinj's ranks, and the Wraiths had to keep up the facade. The next time they flew with Zsinj, Wedge dressed in a black jumpsuit with the Ewok doll attached to his front, and used a voice modifier for his communications. During the battle, "Baron Fel" contacted Wedge, wanting to verify that an Ewok was actually a pilot. An excerpt from their exchange:

"Fel have mate?" - Wedge as Kettch
"Oh, Fel have mate." - Barron Fel
"Smart mate."
"Smart mate. Actress. You understand actress?"
"Like storyteller. She good mate?"
"Good mate."
"Fly with you on big island ship?"
"No, she has her own projects. You understand projects?"
"Under-stand. Make bombs, fix starfighters, stab humans."
"Something like that."
("Iron Fist" p 280)
9. The Wraiths, while pretending to be the Hawkbats, couldn't get any official help from the New Republic. They decided to steal their new fighters from Imperial garrisons. Once they had their new TIE Interceptors, the Wraiths were allowed to paint them the way a mercenary group might. What did Ton Phanan and Face paint on their captured TIE Interceptor?

Answer: Kill Silhouettes

As part of their Hawkbat charade, the Wraiths got to paint their newly acquired TIEs the way mercenary bands might be expected to. Tyria and Kell painted theirs with a terrifying red spiderweb pattern. Face and Ton painted an absurd number of kill silhouettes on theirs. Shalla and Donos decided to paint fake damage all over their TIE to confuse their enemies. Wedge was a little concerned, but decided to let the experiment proceed.
10. Why did Caston Donn want to go on the mission to Zsinj's ship, the Iron Fist, that he was destined to die on?

Answer: He wanted to upload his tracker into the ship computer.

Castin Donn was an expert computer programmer, and wanted to slice a worm into Zsinj's Star Destroyer that would let the Wraiths track it better. Wedge liked the idea, but did not want to implement it right away. When Face, Kell, and Dia went to meet Zsinj as the Hawkbat mercenaries, Castin stowed aboard their shuttle.

He tried to insert his code on his own, but was caught. Zsinj had Castin brought to his fellow Wraiths, and ordered Face to kill the intruder. Face was stunned by the situation, but Dia managed to shoot Castin without hesitation. Face, Kell, and Dia were all shocked by the incident, but their ruse was safe. Dia explained that Castin was already dead when they brought him in, and that shooting him was the only way any of them were going to escape.
