Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which player set the record for hitting 2 grandslams in one inning?

Answer: Fernando Tatis

On April 23, 1999, Fernando Tatis hit two grandslams while playing for the St. Louis Cardinals in a game versus the Los Angeles Dodgers. The homeruns were hit off of Chan Ho Park. To hit three in one inning, it would mean that a minimum of 22 batters would have to bat in a inning and a minimum of 20 runs would score by the time the third grand slam was hit.
2. Which pitcher set the record by hurling back-to-back no-hitters?

Answer: Johnny Vander Meer

His first no-hitter was on June 11, 1938 when he no-hit the Boston Braves with the Reds winning 3-0 and then four days later he no-hit the Brooklyn Dodgers and won that game 6-0. Vander Meer played from 1937 to 1951, all with the Reds.
3. Which two players hit back-to-back homeruns twice in the same inning?

Answer: Mike Cameron and Bret Boone

This was accomplished on May 2, 2002 in a game between the Seattle Mariners and the Chicago Whitesox. To have two players hit back-to-back homeruns three times in an inning would mean that a minimum of 20 batters coming to the plate and 18 runs by the time the last homerun was hit.
4. Which of the following players have not played all nine defensive positions in a single game?

Answer: Mark Belanger

Bert Campaneris was the first to do this feat on Sept. 8, 1965 for the Kansas City A's. Cesar Tovar was the next one to accomplish this on Sept. 22, 1968 for the Minnesota Twins and then Scott Sheldon did it on Sept. 6, 2000 for the Texas Rangers. In Scott Sheldon's outing, as a pitcher he recorded a strikeout of Jeff Liefer of the Chicago Whitesox.

This record can not be broken unless they add another defensive position.
5. It's not uncommon for a switch hitter to hit two homeruns in a game with each being from a different side of the plate, but which two players did this feat in one inning.

Answer: Carlos Baerga and Mark Bellhorn

Carlos Baerga was the first to accomplish this feat on April 8, 1993 against the New York Yankees and was followed by Mark Bellhorn doing it on August 29, 2002 against the Milwaukee Brewers. Since there are only two sides of the plate, nobody can hit from 3 sides of the plate.
