Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What part of the UK is being invaded by giant spiders in "Arachnids in the UK"?

Answer: Sheffield

Like the Doctor promised, she got the trio back home to Yorkshire. Only to discover that the town was being attacked by giant spiders. As chance would have it, one of the key players in the spider invasion lives in Yasmin's apartment building, the Park Hill.

We do get the chance to meet Yaz's family: her father, the conspiracy nut; her mom, who just got sacked from her new job; and Yaz's sister.
2. What actor from "Law and Order" played Jack Robertson, the somewhat villainous hotel owner?

Answer: Chris Noth

Chris North played homicide investigator Mike Logan on "Law and Order" from 1990 to 1995. He also played "Mister Big" on "Sex and the City" (1998-2004). Noth began acting full time in 1981, when he was in graduate school at Yale. Noth also appeared as the husband of the title character Alicia Florek in "The Good Wife" (2009-2016).

Jack Robertson is a billionaire hotel owner with presidential ambitions. His only laudable trait seems to be that he dislikes Donald Trump. Otherwise, Robertson is not a particularly likable individual. He treats his employees horribly and has little compassion or empathy for other living things.

Sam Waterston was Jack McCoy for many years on "Law and Order" (1994-2010). Linus Roache played Assistant DA Mike Cutter on both "Law and Order" (2008-2010) and "Law and Order: SVU" (2011-2012).

Bradley Walsh, who plays Graham in series 11 of "Doctor Who" was also in the cast of the British version of "Law and Order" (2009-2014). He worked with Freema Agyeman (Martha Jones).
3. What does Najia, Yasmin's mother, do for a living?

Answer: hotel manager

Najia shows up at the spider riven hotel, only to be promptly fired by Robertson. The hotel owner later threatens to have her arrested for trespassing. Najia (not Yaz's Mom, as the Doctor would have it) is a hotel manager.

Najia was played by Shobna Gulati, a British actress most noted for her work on the British soap opera "Coronation Street" (2001-2009, 2013).
4. What did the Doctor use to fight the spider in Anna's apartment?

Answer: garlic and vinegar

The Doctor laid down a trail of garlic, claiming that spiders do not like the smell or taste of garlic, and used the acetic acid in the vinegar to deter the spider.

The Doctor has used vinegar to fight aliens before. It came in handy against the Slitheen in "World War Three" (2006).
5. What is Yazmin's father collecting to prove there is a conspiracy occurring?

Answer: garbage

There are multiple bags of garbage gathered in Yazmin's apartment. Her father is collecting it prove that there is a conspiracy afoot in Sheffield. Towards the end of the episode, when Najia discovers that there really is a conspiracy behind the giant spiders, she states that she hates it when her husband is right about something.
6. What does the Doctor tell Jack Robertson her team is when they first meet?

Answer: Crisis Investigators

The Doctor used the somewhat generic phrase "Crisis Investigators" as she flashed the psychic paper.

"Health and Safety" is a long-running joke within "Doctor Who." Both Doctors Ten and Eleven have used it. While they certainly needed exterminators, the Doctor did not claim to be one. And while the Doctor does work for UNIT, she did not make any claims that she worked for them this episode.
7. What celebrity did the Doctor mistake Jack Robertson for?

Answer: Ed Sheeran

Ed Sheeran, like Jodie Whittaker, is a native of Yorkshire. He began performing at age 15, but his real breakout was in 2011. Since then, he has sold over 38 million albums, won multiple Grammy Awards and had several #1 Billboard hits, including "Shape of You" (2017).

Actor Travolta is an actor and was born in 1954, like Chris Noth. Bradley Whitford, most famous as Josh Lyman on "The West Wing" (1999) was born in Madison, Wisconsin, like Chris Noth. Ben Hardy is a British actor born in 1991, like Ed Sheeran.
8. What type of reclaimed land was the hotel built on?

Answer: coal mine

The hotel had a coal mine underneath, which one of Jack's subsidiaries was using to dump toxic waste. Inconveniently, they also dumped the bodies of the spiders from the research lab in the same mine. The toxic soup created gigantic mutant spiders.

The Doctor used very bad rap music to attract the spiders into a lair. The largest spider, or mother spider, grew so large that it could no longer breath. Exactly what happened to the spiders once they were in the panic room is uncertain.
9. Finish the quote from "Arachnids in the UK" (2018): "I eat ___________ for breakfast."

Answer: danger

The Doctor claimed that she ate danger for breakfast. This is just another case of the Doctor using false bravado and it not quite working out.

She prefers cereal or croissants. Or little Portuguese somethings.
10. How did Jack kill the gigantic spider near the end of "Arachnids in the UK" (2018)?

Answer: Shot it with Kevin's gun

Despite the fact the spider was suffocating and soon to die anyway, Jack shot it. When the Doctor pointed out that killing the spider was unnecessary, Robertson called it a mercy killing.

When Robertson claimed that such ruthlessness would help him become President of the United States, Graham quite rightly stated "God help us all."
