Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What does Kerblam! deliver to the Doctor at the start of the episode?

Answer: a fez

The Doctor gets a teleport delivery from Kerblam!, the world's largest on-line retailer. She opens the box to find a fez, which she promptly wears.

The fez is a long-running joke in "Doctor Who". The Eleventh Doctor wore a fez on several occasions, mostly notably in "The Big Bang" (2010). Both Ten and Eleven wore a fez in "The Day of the Doctor" (2013).
2. What planet is the Kerblam! Factory near?

Answer: Kandoka

The factory is one a moon orbiting the planet Kandoka. Most of the orders sent in to the factory are destined for Kandoka. We don't learn much about Kandoka, except that it is has a large enough population to support the galaxy's biggest retailer.

Kahler is the homeworld of the scientist and the gunslinger in the Eleventh Doctor adventure "A Town Called Mercy" (2012). Kastria is the home world of the villain Eldrad in the Fourth Doctor story "The Hand of Fear" (1976). Krop Tor is the planet on the edge of the black hole in "The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit" (2006).
3. What is the name of the Doctor and Ryan's co-worker in the packing area?

Answer: Kira Arlo

Kira Arlo was the girl in packing. She had led rather a sad life, as an orphan who had received only one gift her entire life: a box of chocolates.
Despite this, Kira had a positive outlook.

Judy Maddox was the head of the human relations department at Kerblam or Head of People as she put it herself. Judy helped the Doctor unravel the conspiracy inside the company.

Kira Nerys was the Bajorian Executive Officer on "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" played by Nana Visitor. Tegan was a flight attendant who traveled with the Fifth Doctor.

Claudia Jessie played Kira. She started working in British television in 2013. Her other credits include the police procedural "Line of Duty" (2017), Amelia Smedley in the TV miniseries "Vanity Fair" (2018) and the online mystery drama "Dixi" (2014-16)
4. What section of the factory was Dan in when he was attacked by the robot?

Answer: Triple Nines

Dan went to Triples Nine, a fairly deserted area of the factory, and was attacked by a robot. All that was left of him was a silver locket from his daughter. Yaz was originally supposed to go to the dangerous section of the factory, but Dan took her place. She narrowly escaped the killer robot.
5. Who did the Doctor name drop when Yaz brought up the subject of wasps?

Answer: Agatha Christie

The Tenth Doctor and Donna Noble had an adventure with legendary mystery writer Agatha Christie in "The Unicorn and The Wasp" (2008). They were chased by a large extra-terrestrial wasp creature.

Aristophanes, the Greek playwright, wrote a play called "The Wasps" (422 BC). The Ninth Doctor encountered Dickens in "The Unquiet Dead" (2005). The Doctor and Martha Jones visited the Bard in "The Shakespeare Code" (2007).
6. What was the name of the first delivery robot used by Kerblam!?

Answer: Twirly

The Doctor used Twirly, which was in a museum exhibit, to interface with the computer's mainframe to discover what was happening at the factory. Twirly couldn't handle the overload, but the Kerblam! System introduced itself to the Doctor, and asked for help.

Twiki was the annoying robot on "Buck Rogers in the 25th Century" (1979-81). K9 was the Doctor's robot dog companion (1977-81 and 2006). The Teselecta is a criminal justice robot, first seen in "Let's Kill Hitler" (2011) and later playing an important role in "The Wedding of River Song" (2011).
7. What item related to shipping products was weaponized in the series 11 episode "Kerblam!"?

Answer: bubble wrap

All of products shipped out of Kerblam were packed in bubble wrap. The bubble wrap was laced with micro-explosives, so that when it was popped it would explode. In the conspiracy, robots would transport to Kandoka and deliver explosive packages, thereby discrediting the use of robots and opening up jobs for humans.
8. Who turned out to be behind the conspiracy in "Kerblam!"?

Answer: Charlie the maintenance worker

Charlie turned out to be the person behind the robot army delivering explosive bubble wrap to the people of Kandoka. In a rare case for "Doctor Who" the smarmy corporate executive turned to actually be one of the good guys. Charlie was doing this as a protest against the use of robots and automation at the Kerblam! factory, in hopes that mass murder committed by robots might sour people on their use as deliverymen.

Charlie was played by Leo Flanagan. He has been acting in British television since 2014, most notably in the school drama "Waterloo Road" (2014).
9. Yaz and Ryan manage to save Kira.

Answer: False

Charlie has been using the robots to select employees as test subjects for the explosive bubble wrap. To his horror, the robots chose Kira, who he has a crush on. Kira opens up the Kerblam! package, finds only bubble wrap, and does what people do with bubble wrap. She was killed in a massive explosion.

Charlie, wracked by guilt and grief, decides to remain among the robots when they explode, effectively committing suicide.
10. Who wrote the series 11 episode "Kerblam"?

Answer: Pete McTighe

Matthew Gravelle provided the voice of "Kerblam" in the episode. It was old home week for him, as Gravelle worked with Chibnall and Whittaker on "Broadchurch" (2013-2017). A native of Cardiff, Gravelle has been working in British television since 2000.

Julie Hesmondhalgh played Judy Maddox in "Kerblam!" She is another alumnus of "Broadchurch" (2017), playing Trish Winterman. She is best known for her 16 years as Hayley on the British soap opera "Coronation Street" (1998-2014).
