Music Celebs Mixed Trivia Questions

1. Ella Fitzgerald was recognized at the Kennedy Center Honours in 1979. Which genre of music is Ms. Fitzgerald most famous for singing?

From Quiz
Kennedy Centre Honours for Musicians

Answer: Jazz

The Kennedy Center Honours were first awarded in 1978. Ella Fitzgerald was honoured a year later in 1979. When it came time for her to be recognized, Peggy Lee provided an overview of Ms. Fitzgerald's career that she narrated while a video of her career played in the background. Then, after the video montage, Count Basie and his band performed a live jazz piece in her honour. For the event, a reception was hosted at the White House by President and Mrs. Carter. Ms. Fitzgerald and the other honourees attended both the event at the theatre, and the after party at the White House. Other honourees for the year 1979 include Aaron Copland (composer and conductor), Henry Fonda (actor), Martha Graham (dancer and choreographer), and Tennessee Williams (playwright and screenwriter).

Answer: Cliff Martinez

From Quiz Musically Left, Not Right or Wrong

From Quiz Myths Behind Rock Music Legends

Answer: Cass Elliot

Cass Elliot, born Ellen Naomi Cohen, was significantly overweight at the time of her death. She did not die by choking on a ham sandwich. That was a rumor that started with her physician. There actually was a pork sandwich in the room but Cass hadn't eaten it. Any drugs that were present in the room (Cass did use drugs) had been cleared away before news of her death reached the media, and the autopsy found that there were no drugs in her system at the time. Cass Elliot died at age 32 due to what the coroner reported was "fatty myocardial degeneration due to obesity."

The Eagles were one of the most successful musical groups of the 1970s. The band formed in 1971 after Linda Ronstadt had played with a group of musicians in her band. She encouraged them to break out on their own, so members Glenn Frey (guitars, vocals), Don Henley (drums, vocals), Bernie Leadon (guitars, vocals), and Randy Meisner (bass guitar, vocals) came together and produced a number of very successful albums. Don Henley was the drummer and co-lead vocalist for the band from 1971 until they broke up in 1980, then again for their numerous reunions since. After the Eagles initially broke up in 1980, Henley pursued a solo career that was quite successful. Solo songs such as "Leather and Lace" (duet with Stevie Nicks), "Dirty Laundry", "The Boys of Summer" and "All She Wants to Do Is Dance" reached the top ten on the charts. Henley's musicianship has been rewarded with a number of Grammy Awards (both with the Eagles and as a solo artist), and the 2007 MusiCares Person of the Year award.
