 Dog Breeds Mixture
Ancient Mesopotamia. The Saluki is the oldest dog breed, descended from the light desert wolves.Devolped as a sighthound, the Saluki can run at speeds of nearly forty miles an hour. In more recent times, the breed was considered the only type of dog clean enough to be allowed into the home by the Muslims.
French Herding Breed. The Beauceron is a large black and tan herding breed. The ears are usally cropped, and the appearance is that of a slightly more rough coated Doberman with a tail and a less snipy muzzle.
Jaguar hunting and Guard. The Fila Brasileiro can weigh nearly 200 pounds and stand almost three feet tall. They are very strong and as the puppies grow older they start showing ojeriza, basically a loathing of strangers and utter loyalty to i'ts master. Of course, as if having a massive dog attacking you wasn't bad enough, they also have great speed and jumping abilty.
Japanese Hunting Dog. The Kishu is used to hunt boar and deer in remote areas of Japan. Very rare. They are snow white to cream and are medium sized, as are most Japanese dogs.
A German Hunting Dog. The Large Munsterlander is a medium sized German hunting dog.They stand about 24 inches tall and weigh about 45 pounds. Colors are black and white with black ticking. Coat is about medium length.
Lhasa Apso and Maltese. The Kyi Leo is to my knowledge the only dog breed with a restricted symbol after its name. Stands about 8 to 12 inches and 9 to 14 pounds. Is said to be able to grasp objects in its paws.
True . The Chinese Foo Dog was thought to be extinct until rediscovered recently. Three sizes. A typical Spitz dog, thought to be the missing link between the wolf and the Chow-Chow or from crosses of Chow Chows and Northern European hunting dogs. The mascot of the Tongs and beleived to bring good luck. Very furry.
A toy version of the Siberian Husky. The Klee Klai, although a tiny Siberan Husky, did not orignate in Alaska, but in fact the continental USA.
A strain of American Bulldog. The Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog is a type of American Bulldog. Slightly, and I mean slightly slimmer and smaller than an American Bulldog. Tail left natrual. They are all releated to a single Georgian bulldog from a plantation in Alapaha. Up to 24 inches tall. The orignal plantation bulldog.
A giant Polish sighthound and guard. The Chart Polski is a huge sighthound. They can stand up to 32 inches tall and are a little more solid than their relative the Greyhound. Sometimes used for guarding.

Irish Red and White Setter. The Irish Setter is red, the English setter can be orange, blue or yellow with white, and the Gordon setter is black and tan and from Great Britain.

No hair. Also called the Mexican Hairless, the Xolo really does not have any hair! He might have a light fuzz on his skull or the end of his tail.
Russia. The Siberian Husky originated in Russia and was bred by the Chukchi people in ancient times. When Russia fell to Communist powers any signs of wealth were not permitted by the Communist govenment. This included the Siberian Husky. Most of the Siberians not taken from the Chukchi people were exported to Alaska, leading to the popular misconception that the Husky was native to Alaska, which is entirely false. To this day there are no pure bred Huskies in their native homeland of Russia.

Sighthound. The Ibizan Hound is a sighthound, meaning they use their sight, and not their scent, to hunt small game animals such as rabbits.

Borzoi. The Borzoi is the other name for the Russian Wolfhound. After the Russian Revolution the days of extreme weath were over as Communism set in. Unlike its counterpart the Siberian Husky, which was exported to other lands, the Borzoi were slaughtered. The fate of the breed was left in the hands of foreign royalty in other countries. Borzoi were eventually brought to America and gained a reputation as the ultimate glamour dog, often seen at the sides of movie stars.
Turkey . The Anatolian Shepherd originated in Turkey during ancient times where it was used to guard the shepherd's flocks. The Anatolian was accepted into the American Kennel Club in 1996.

As the dog gets older its coat turns blue. The Kerry Blue Terrier is actually born black but changes colour anywhere from nine months to two years until it develops a blue colouration, hence the name, Kerry Blue Terrier.

Xolo. It's short for "Xoloitzcuintle ," which is pronounced roughly as "show-low-eetz-quint-lee." This breed comes in both toy and standard sizes.

Miniature Pinscher. This is another name for the feisty Min-Pin.
Basenji. The Basenji very rarely, if ever, barks. Instead it sounds like it is singing or "yodeling". The Basenji was used by the natives of Congo as a pack-hunting dog.

Cardigan Corgi. Pembroke Corgis have a 'bob' tail which is not much more than a stump, while the Cardigan Corgi has a very long tail. It is obvious why this great dog breed was sometimes called 'Ci Llathaid' in Welsh which translates to 'the yard long dog'.
Corgis are tough strong dogs originally used for livestock droving. They have short legs which enabled them to nip between the hooves of cattle without being kicked.
'Droving' is an old English word, which has much the same meaning as 'driving' now. Men who moved cattle about the country were drovers and the routes they used were 'drove roads'.

pubs. Manchesters are quite unusual nowadays. To me they look very like a miniature Doberman having a short black and tan coat. Their personalities are quite different of course being terriers.
The breed received a Royal Warrant from Queen Victoria for rat catching (can't imagine she was in a pub though!)
Manchesters are one of the 25 'vunerable' British breeds in that there are less than 300 pups registered each year with the British Kennel Club. It would be a shame if these perky little dogs disappeared altogether.
| The Clumber Spaniel is a heavy set largish spaniel, much favoured by King George the fifth. It was bred, as all spaniels were, to work on shoots and hunting trips.

It has a creamy white coat with lemon patches.
This is an unusual breed from a small estate in Nottinghamshire. It is on the 'vunerable' breeds list as not many pups are registered with the Kennel Club each year.
The Kennel Club of Great Britain list 63 British breeds 23 of which are on the vunerable list.
West Highland White Terrier. This little dog was bred to control vermin in the quite inhospitably mountainous region of Scotland. You would think a big hairy dog would have been needed but no. The Westie is a brave strong dog prepared to take on anything.
Now they are bred as companion dogs, but remember every Westie has the call of the highlands in him!
Sheltie. This breed looks like a miniature Lassie (Rough Collie) but it is a breed on its own and not a miniaturisation of any breed. It has a lot of Border Collie in its ancestry. It has been bred to have a thick double coat to protect it from the weather in the Shetland Islands.
The breed standard for Britain demands a smaller dog at 14" than the American breed standard which allows a dog to be up to two inches taller.
Interesting that the Shetland pony, Shetland sheep and the Shetland sheepdog are all small. I wonder if the mice are too.

Edinburgh. Greyfriars Bobby is an interesting story which you can easily find on the 'net'. Edinburgh is where the story played out and there are various memorials of him there.
The Skye Terrier, although bred for destroying vermin, has a long silky coat and has been kept as a pet for centuries.
After the execution of Mary Queen of Scots it is said that her Skye Terrier emerged from under her skirts and refused food until he died.
I have always thought that Dougal from the Magic Roundabout was modelled on a Skye.
