Cooper, Gary
May 7th, 1901. Gary Cooper was born in Helena, Montana of English parents. His father became a Montana State Supreme Court Justice. He had an older brother called Arthur and both boys were sent to school in England until the First World War.
Frank James Cooper. When he became a movie star, his agent suggested changing his first name as there was already an actor called Frank Cooper. She suggested Gary after her home town of Gary, Indiana.

Richard Widmark. The picture also starred Susan Hayward and was directed by Henry Hathaway. Hayward had previously been in "Beau Geste" with Cooper.

Maria. Maria was his only child whom he doted on. She was born on September 15th, 1937. Although aware of her father's infidelity and difficult marriage, she never complained or said anything detrimental about him.

May 13th, 1961. Cooper died just 6 days after his 60th birthday. His 86 year old mother was at his funeral and his pallbearers included James Stewart, William Goetz, Jack Benny and Samuel Goldwyn.
