Williams, Montel
July 3rd. Montel Brian Hank Williams was born on July 3, 1956 in Baltimore, Maryland.
Marines. Montel joined the USMC in 1974 and served 15 years. While he was enlisted, he learned Mandarin Chinese and earned a degree in general engineering, with a minor in International Security Affairs. He served as a special duty intelligence offer, specializing in cryptology. While stationed in Guam, Montel earned a degree in Russian.In 1975, Montel became the first black Marine to be selected to the Naval Academy Prep School.

2001. Soon after Montel heard he was living with MS, he wanted to use his celebrity status to do something about it. He founded The Montel Williams MS Foundation and in April 2001, it gave its first three grants to organizations which specialize in finding a cure for MS. The organizations were, The Foundation for Neurologic Diseases at Harvard University, a comprehensive care and research center, The Nancy Davis Foundation's Center Without Walls, a collaboration of scientists at top hospitals and universities and The Karolinska-Nobel Institute in Sweden, which is a pioneer in MS research. Each organization received $100,000.
