He had a graceful looking running style. Fritz was a track athlete, but never competed in the Olympics. He finished third in the 1500-metre run in 1930, 1931, and 1933 at the German Championships. Fritz was also selected to end the torch relay because he was a symbol of German sporting youth. Fritz was again the torchbearer at the 1996 Summer Olympics. This time though he didn't light the Olympic fire, Muhammad Ali did. Fritz passed away on September 12, 2005.
University of Washington. The United States took first place in the Men's eights competition. Italy placed second overall. The host nation, Germany, finished third overall. Herbert Morris, Charles Day, Gordon Adam, John White, James McMillin, George Hunt, Joseph Rantz, Donald Hume, and Robert Moch made up the U.S.A Men's eights team. That would be the United States' only rowing gold medal at the 1936 Olympic Games. Germany would win five out of the seven rowing events. Great Britain would win the Men's double sculls, with Germany placing second.

Peru would go into extra time and eventually win, 4-2. After the fourth goal was scored, the fans stormed the field. The Austrian soccer team claimed that a spectator brandished a revolver and the Peruvian players had manhandled the Austrians. The officials ordered the game to be replayed. The Peruvian team was insulted and withdrew from the competition. Austria went on to win silver, losing to Italy in the finals. The gold medal winning Italians defeated the Austrians 2-1. Norway would claim bronze after defeating Poland in the bronze medal match, 3-2.
On lawn tennis courts. The International Basketball Federation was experimenting with outdoor basketball. The countries had to play on lawn tennis courts each game. In the gold medal match, the United States faced off against Canada. It was raining, and this made the court turn very muddy. There were no stands so the 1,000 spectators had to stand in the rain. It was so bad that soon the players for either team could not dribble. The final score was U.S.A 19, Canada 8. Joe Fortenberry scored the most points in the game. Joe scored a total of seven points. In the bronze medal match, Mexico defeated Poland 26-12, to win the bronze. The next Summer Games that the competition was the 1948 London Games, and it was held indoors. The 1940 and 1944 Games were canceled due to the war.

Willy den Ouden was native to the Netherlands. Rie competed for the Netherlands. She beat out Gisela Arendt for the victory. In the semi-final, Rie tied the record she had just recently set the day before. On August 10, 1936, Rie raced in the final for the 100m freestyle. Rie finished with a time of 1:05.9, breaking the record she had set and tied in the past two days. At the 1936 Olympic Games, Rie accumulated a total of three gold medals and a single silver medal. Rie placed first in the 400m freestyle and the 4x100m freestyle relay. Her lone silver medal came in the 100m backstroke.

Anwar Mesbah. Both Anwar and Robert lifted the same amount of weight before dropping out. That caused the tie. Having a tie for gold meant that there was no silver medal awarded. Karl Jansen, a German, won bronze in the event. Anwar was an Egyptian weightlifter. This was Anwar's, Karl's, and Robert's only medal at the 1936 Berlin Games. All the medals Egypt earned at the 1936 Olympics were in the weightlifting competitions.
Jesse Owens . Jesse accumulated a total of four medals, all of which were gold while at the Berlin Games. Jesse won the long jump, 100m, and 200m. He also won the 4x100m relay. His teammates in the 4x100 metre relay were Ralph Metcalfe Foy Draper, and Frank Wykoff. Back in the United States Jesse faced many challenges for being African-American. While at the 1936 Olympic Games, he faced none. No person would ever win the same four events that Jesse did in one Olympic Games, until Carl Lewis came along at the 1984 Summer Games.
