Ken Schrader. Schrader ran over the windshield from Phil Barkdoll's #73 Oldsmobile. Ricky Rudd drove for Hendrick Motorsports but in the #5 Tide ride, Bodine drove the #11 for Junior Johnson, and Richmond used to drive the #25, but was deceased at the time of the 1991 Daytona 500.

Geoff Bodine. Geoff Bodine, in the #11 Budweiser Ford, was involved in a crash with Jim Sauter. There was damage to the left rear quarter panel of the car near the fuel tank, and some of the damage apparently allowed fumes to escape from to the cockpit, causing Bodine's unscheduled stop.

Lee Petty. Well, it took three days to declare who the winner was, but when they did, it was Lee Petty who got the win. Petty started 12th and had only led 38 laps, but led the most important one.

Dale Earnhardt Jr.. Coming out of nowhere and with 28 laps remaining, Scott Wimmer in the #22, took on only two tires in the last round of pit stops, but it did not last long as Tony Stewart regained the lead with 25 laps to go. It was Tony and Dale Jr. down the last hopefuls, until Jimmy Fennick, crew chief of Busch, tried to make a deal with Tony Eury Jr., the crew chief of Dale Jr. Due to Dale Jr. putting Kurt two laps down earlier in the race, Busch would not draft with Dale Jr. and chose Tony Stewart who was battling. At any rate, Dale Jr. took the lead with 19 laps to go. It was down to Dale Jr., Stewart, and Kevin Harvick with 10 laps to go. The final results were: 1)Dale Earnhardt Jr. 2)Tony Stewart 3)Scott Wimmer 4)Kevin Harvick. 5)Jimmie Johnson, of the #48 Lowe's. Tony led the most laps with 97.

When the smoke cleared, it was Jimmie Johnson winning his first cup at Daytona. Casey Mears finished second, and Ryan Newman finished third.
