Bill and Donna Strauss. Bill and Donna Strauss head up the Parkettes Club in PA (my home state). They tried unsuccessfully for years to get one of their girls in the Olympics, and came close several times. Their dreams finally came true in 2000 with Kristen Maloney, who is from Penn Argyle, PA.
Boris Pilkin. Pilkin was the one who went against all of the naysayers that said the young "Svieta" was going to be too tall for gymnastics (she's 5ft 5in) and that it was useless to train her. He worked with and around her height, and in the process they created a new look for gymnastics.
Oleg Ostapenko. Ostapenko believed that Viktoriya was the most talented gymnast he'd ever seen. Unfortunately, she always managed to slip herself right out of big titles such as the Worlds and the Olympics - whether with injury (as in the 1996 Olympic Games) or with a careless mistake (2000 Olympic Games).
