Hawthorn Hawks
8. Hawthorn made the Grand Final every year apart from 1990 when they finished 5th.
5. Hawthorn won in 1983 against Essendon. 1986 vs Carlton. 1988 vs Melbourne. 1989 vs Geelong and 1991 vs West Coast.
Paul Dear. Gary Ayres won 2 Norm Smith medals (1986 and 1988). Dunstall kicked 6 goals in the 1991 Grand Final but was beaten for the award by Paul Dear.
Nick Holland. Holland had a great year in 2000 and polled 19 Brownlow medal votes. Crawford won the Brownlow in 1999.
Too old, too slow. This was a dig at the media who wrote them off at the start of the season for being too old and too slow to have a chance.
Jonathan Hay. Hay and Smith were both All-Australians in 2001. Ayres and Collins together with Chris Langford regularly made up the All-Australian full back line in the mid to late 80's.
Peter Hudson. Dunstall's best single season effort was 145 and he is the all-time leading goalkicker for Hawthorn, Dermott once kicked 8 goals as a teenager in a Grand Final side that lost by more than 60 points. Leigh Matthews (rated the greatest player to have laced on a boot) is the Hawks second all-time goalkicker.
Leigh Matthews. They did call him Lethal for nothing.
