Mar 28 2024: Challenge One-Liner News

A new challenge has been added: One-Liner

Awarded to a player who submits a Question Bingo card for exactly one line credit

This challenge is aimed at two entirely different kinds of FunTrivia author:

THE BEGINNER

You're not yet sold on the Question Bingo game and just want to try it out - but you don't see yourself making twelve to fifteen questions at short notice. Well - here's your chance: Try it for just five questions. Pick the easiest of your twelve lines and submit, and presto, you got yourself a badge.

THE PRO

You've been hooked at first sight, but your card reads "String theory", "Kim Kardashian", "Grand Prix Dressage", "Seafarers of Catan" and "Beethoven's 2nd Symphony" - and that's the most coherent line you can find. Well, you do need at least one line to get rid of it, so it wouldn't be the worst time to do just that now and profit. Think of it as a special mulligan!

...

...

Oh, you expected a one-liner joke?

Well, here you go:

"Three FunTrivia authors walked into a bar that was set too low."

Mar 28 2024: Challenge Bingo! News

A new challenge has been added: Bingo!

Awarded to any player who collects a cumulative total of three Bingo lines in the Question Bingo game

You think Bingo is a game of luck? Well, yes and no. At least for FunTrivia Question Bingo, you are entirely in control of your fate when it comes to which square you want to cover. All you need to do is to write a single question where the question text or the correct answer contains the term you are submitting for. Cover at least one full line to be able to submit your card. You can and probably should try to do as many lines on a card as you can (you can hit up to 12 if you cover all 25 terms), but one line will be enough if you prefer. Each line counts to your total.

However it's still luck what you get on your card. You might get words that are right up your alley - or ones you can't do anything with.

Oh, and we have no freebie square. You need to hit the center like any other square. In fact, since it's the most valuable square - it is on both diagonals in addition to row and column - it's probably the one you want most.

Three lines will get you this badge - but of course there are some upgrades lurking which require a tad more...

Important: You can't "accidentally" hit a square by randomly submitting a question that happens to hit a word on your card. To get credit, you need to initiate the submission from the Question Bingo page by clicking the square you want to play. And you'll only get credit for the one word you clicked - no covering half your card at once.

Mar 28 2024: Challenge Bingo Jackpot News

A new challenge has been added: Bingo Jackpot

Awarded to any player who submits a complete Question Bingo card with all 25 squares filled

Getting just one or a few lines per Question Bingo card seems inefficient to you? Well, you may have a point... if you do just one line, you need five questions to get one credit. If you do three, you might be able to do so with twelve questions (which averages at four per credit). And if you write 25 questions, you can get 12 lines which is the ultimate efficiency at one credit per just 2.083 questions.

If only it weren't for that pesky word or three that seems to resist all your efforts at making a good question of it.

But maybe you are creative enough to try regardless of what we throw at you. Or you just got lucky and your card smiles at you with 25 immediate ideas. Regardless of which way you choose, we'll give you an additional badge for a jackpot submission. And it's rainbow color beautiful.

Mar 14 2024: Challenge Mystery Box News

A new challenge has been added: Mystery Box

Awarded to a player who scores perfectly on 3 mystery box games.

Available as a perk to ranks Senior Adept [11d] and above.

Hey, nice rank insignia you have there. Looks like... oh, dang, I forgot my glasses, but it seems to indicate at least a Senior Adept. Did you look at your home page lately? If you do so at the right time, you might notice something... a portal. If you do, I would recommend that you enter it. And once you've done so, solve the combination lock on those boxes for some treasure. You may get more or less from each try - that's why it's called a mystery and adventuring. Some days you find a dragon's hoard, some day... the discarded remains of a giant spider's dinner.

But what counts more than coins is the experience gained - and you'll gain most of that by perfectly opening boxes. No triggering of traps, no "poof" that eats half of the treasure. Try that three times and you may see your very own treasure hoard start filling up.

Feb 15 2024: Challenge Authoring: Stack News

A new challenge has been added: Authoring: Stack

Awarded to a player who authors 2 collection quizzes

Do you have what it takes to be a star?

Well, I don't have a star for you, but I have the southern ray of it. .

I just can't give it to you for nothing - it'll take a little work. To be exact, you first need to find a group of some things that belong together - anywhere from 10 to 25 - then add in some red herrings to turn them into a collection quiz, which you could easily build around many different aspects, both tangible and abstract. Then do it once more, for a total of two, and you can have this star ray. Or should I shorten that to "stray"?

Feb 12 2024: Challenge Authoring: Socket News

A new challenge has been added: Authoring: Socket

Awarded to a player who authors 2 fun fill in quizzes

Do you have what it takes to be a star?

Well, I don't have a star for you, but I have the northern ray of it. .

I just can't give it to you for nothing - it'll take a little work. To be exact, you first need to find or write some short but remarkable piece of text. Then, locate some keywords in that text that could be removed to make a uniquely solvable puzzle - that turns your text into a great fun fill in quiz. Then do it once more, for a total of two, and you can have this star ray. Or should I shorten that to "stray"?

Feb 06 2024: Challenge Authoring: Matchbox News

A new challenge has been added: Authoring: Matchbox

Awarded to a player who authors 2 high quality match quizzes

Do you have what it takes to be a star?

Well, I don't have a star for you, but I have the western ray of it. .

I just can't give it to you for nothing - it'll take a little work. To be exact, you first need to come up with at least ten things you can somehow describe - or tell apart from each other - with a short description which you can then turn into a creative match quiz, which you could easily build around such a set. Wait until your quiz has gone online and received a distinction for high quality (any color, we're not picky). Then do it once more, for a total of two, and you can have this star ray. Or should I shorten that to "stray"?

Feb 05 2024: Challenge My Home is My Castle News

A new challenge has been added: My Home is My Castle

Awarded to a player who authors a quiz in the system-chosen adventure subcategory of 3 different categories

Available as a perk to ranks Scholar [13a] and above.

As a scholar or beyond, it may be of special interest to you that, many years ago - around 2007, when badges were first introduced - there were two badges based on a long extinct concept of "bonus points". You may even have been around for long enough to have owned one of them.

Now, they were nothing special - but the images were well loved: Your own castle in Quizzyland. A smaller one and a larger one. Well, nothing is lost. We acquired some new land and - presto, we can build castles again! Yes, you can now upgrade your FunTrivia home into a real castle.

All it takes is some exotic materials and a bit of work - but that's where you come in. We've searched far and wide and found that you already have an extensive collection of things, but before we can send the artisans and craftspeople to build your personal stronghold, we need at least three items from the list below. To claim an item, all you need to do is author one quiz in the respective first-level subcategory. Do it three times and you can own one of the long-lost castles. All yours.

Feb 05 2024: Challenge My Castle is My Home News

A new challenge has been added: My Castle is My Home

Awarded to a player who creates quizzes of all format types in 3 top-level categories

Available as a perk to ranks Virtuoso [18a] and above.

Oh, right, that castle of yours (you do own one, don't you? If not, head here and claim yours)...

Well, there's one thing you may have forgotten: Castles are really big, especially if they are just for you, your treasures, your adventuring gear and your sizable menagerie. Which means - in spite of all your conquests and riches and all the luxuries, it feels a bit empty. You need more personal stuff to really make every corner as cozy as it was when you lived in one of those standard houses you can get as a prodigy or maven and never had enough space. But it was home.

Well, you don't want to move back, do you? So the solution would be to make this castle every bit as personal as you had it back then. Do it one step at a time. Pick one aspect you want to improve, do it in all ways available. Then move on to the next one. You'll find that even when you have done just three, it'll feel a lot more personal. And that's only the beginning.

Feb 05 2024: Challenge Guru Meditation News

A new challenge has been added: Guru Meditation

Each day score 50 correct answers on the sub-topic of the day, shown on this challenge page.

Available as a perk to ranks Guru [19a] and above.

Just how deep do these lost halls go? It seems they are infinite - or, considering that the path to divine ascension begins a mere 666 miles below the surface and you have come so much further than that, at least to the center of the world.

Anyway, as a newly appointed Guru, you'll need to master the skill of meditation. You may say that's what brought you this far... the reality is you have not even scratched the surface. So let's start a daily exercise. Fate will provide a topic every day, you need to meditate on it until you can come up with fifty answers. It should take you... oh... about a month to reach some enlightenment if you practice carefully.

Feb 03 2024: Challenge Bridge to the Future News

A new challenge has been added: Bridge to the Future

Awarded to a player who completes the required number of quizzes and crosswords from the list below, based on the 2023 Limited Edition authoring challenge

They said 2023 would be better than the years before. Well, on a worldwide scale it wasn't. But, since we at FunTrivia tend to remain positive, we took two new inspiring songs and turned them into quizzes and crosswords, every single word from the lyrics becoming a title. Yes, even "and" and "to".

Which songs? Glad you asked.

Here they are - they're a pair of songs sharing a theme of friendship, of being there for one another.

But why talk about them? Listen for yourself:

You've Got A Friend
Bridge over Troubled Water

So, did you take away some inspiration? I hope you did, because you can now experience the spirit of friendship, in the time when you need it, to hold out and help build a better future for us all. And unlike the authoring award, this one doesn't put you under any time pressure - this bridge will remain for you to cross for as long as the site exists!

Feb 03 2024: Challenge Frankenstein News

A new challenge has been added: Frankenstein

Awarded to a player scoring perfect 15/15 in 30 Monster Quizzes

I heard you're good at dealing with monsters... well that's a great thing. Because, you know, we could use a few monsters of our own to defend against him. But since the Evil One has a lot of resources at his disposal, we can only use perfect monsters. So if you'd be so kind and deliver thirty of those to our back entrance, we'd be inclined to reward you... handsomely. * This challenge counts all perfects starting Feb 3, 2024
