The theme music for Black Books was composed and played by Jonathan Whitehead. Many people regard to tune to be a rip off of a Tom Waits' "Jockey Full of Bourbon".

Yes that's what it reminds me of, I wondered specifically was it Marc Ribot on guitar, it's definitely his style.
