"The theme music was composed by Dennis Wilson (he also composed the Rising Damp theme tune). ... It was written specially for the show and taped a few days before the recording of the pilot episode. It was performed by Dennis Wilson and a string quartet at Studio R of CTS in Wembley, London on Thursday 19 December 1974."

The series theme music was written by Dennis Wilson and was inspired by Ludwig van Beethoven's Minuet in G major. (satguru)
