Which weighs more---an unpopped popcorn kernel or a popped popcorn kernel?

Given that the popping occurs due to the internal pressure from water being converted to steam, the unpopped kernel will weigh more. The popped kernel has lost the weight of (some of) this steam.

True. However, if you popped it using oil, the 'popped' kernel might actually weigh more!
