I'll take a stab. In the Dear Dad episode (season 1 episode 12) Hawkeye is dressed as Santa to cheer up a local orphanage. Unfortunately, he gets called out to do surgery on a soldier who is in combat. Hawkeye flys in to do the surgery in the field still dressed as Santa. I can't find a reference to "red socks" online, but Google images of the episode shows him head to toe in a bright red Santa suit!

Nope, not the one. I don't think you ever see his socks in that one.

More info in case anyone has the episodes on DVD... what I recall is that Hawkeye was sitting on one of the tables in the mess tent, his feet on the seat, with his pants hiked up to show his socks. I don't recall any of the dialog because what I remember it from was a promo ad for M*A*S*H reruns, but I remember he was wearing bright red socks. I have searched using the standard search engines and on YouTube without success. I have seen all but the first season of M*A*S*H at least five times each and regularly do well when it pops up in Expert, so I'm guessing it was from the first season, which wasn't shown in reruns very often. I'm also guessing it was some kind of holiday celebration like Christmas or New Year's, but I can't swear to that, and it's been many years since I saw it. It's also not the episode where the whole camp dyes their clothes and hair red in celebration of Hawkeye getting through to the peace talks at Panmunjon, though that is a good one.
