What animal would win the 100m at the 'animal olympics' if flying were permitted? The Mexican Free-tailed Bat or the Swift? Both have been clocked at top speeds of around 100 mph for straight, horizontal flying, bests in the animal kingdom. Would one have quicker acceleration speed to begin the race the way some sprinting athletes have a faster reaction time to the gun at the beginning of races?

The fastest bird in the world is the Peregrine Falcon.
The peregrine falcon is best known for its diving speed during flight—which can reach more than 300 km (186 miles) per hour—making it not only the world’s fastest bird but also the world’s fastest animal.
