Claudia Lennear is thought to be the former Ikette who inspired both songs. In 1969, her soul group toured with The Rolling Stones, leading to a romance with lead singer Mick Jagger that sparked the hit song "Brown Sugar." A few years later, she met David Bowie at a dinner party, and their brief relationship inspired him to write the dramatic ballad "Lady Grinning Soul" for his Aladdin Sane album. While she was a muse to these rock stars, Lennear was also an incredible vocalist in her own right, performing with everyone from George Harrison to Joe Cocker during the height of the 1970s.
