Fagin, the sinister villain in Charles Dickens' Oliver Twist, was also the name of Dickens' best friend, Bob Fagin

Fagin is an irish name.

Dickens gave the villain a Jewish name (Fagin is Yiddish for "Son of Faige" - "Son of the bird"), and it is a surname. I thought his given name in the book was Henry, but I could be very wrong.
