1988 - Bobby McFerrin releases "Simple Pleasures" with the monster hit, "Don't Worry Be Happy" which becomes the first a cappella song to reach the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

"Only You" sung by the Flying Pickets reached number one in the UK in 1983. No idea about the US.

At the end of the year, the a capella "Caravan of Love" by the Housemartins became a number one R&B hit. (1986)
